Single change for Sharks

The Sharks will field a largely-unchanged starting fifteen against the Bulls at Loftus this weekend, with Bismarck du Plessis replacing Kyle Cooper in the only change to the run-on outfit.

Hope that a change might come at eighthman have been dashed, with Keegan Daniel retaining bopth the jersey and the captain’s armband, notwithstanding a slew of poor performances in recent months.

Cooper switches to the bench in an otherwise completely unchanged match 22 that again features Butch James and Louis Ludik in midfield. Jaco van Tonder remains the only uncapped member of the match day squad and will surely come off the bench this week for his first taste of Super Rugby.

Sharks:
15. Riaan Viljoen
14. Odwa Ndungane
13. Louis Ludik
12. Butch James
11. Lwazi Mvovo
10. Patrick Lambie
9. Charl McLeod
8. Keegan Daniel (Capt)
7. Willem Alberts
6. Marcell Coetzee
5. Franco van der Merwe
4. Edwin Hewitt
3. Jannie du Plessis
2. Bismarck du Plessis
1. Tendai Mtawarira

Replacements
16. Kyle Cooper
17. Wiehahn Herbst
18. Jandre Marais
19. Jean Deysel
20. Jacques Botes
21. Cobus Reinach
22. Jaco van Tonder

  • Why the persistence with Daniel as captain? Bissie’s captaincy at the end was the only thing that allowed us the win.

  • Fuck.

Was really hoping Kanko would be there.

Keegan needs a big game or else he’ll receive the same treatment as Plum.

  • Why not just start Alberts at lock, Deysel at 7. Then we have both on the field at the same time.

I would start Botes as well, maybe move Marcel to 8, but yeah, shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic as John Robbie used to say.

  • Perhaps I’m the only one, but I personally dont see any value in making major changes to your captaincy and loose forward combinations this late in a competition.

For continuity sake I agree with keeping Keegan in for the last 2 matches, even though he hasn’t been in the best of forms, we know that he gives his best and his hard work around the park is not always valued.

Let the team stay together for this last shot at it and then make any necessary changes for CC.

  • I’m worried about the breakdown. Keegan’s the only one there who “competes” and he is so off form I would rather he doesn’t, especially towards the end of the game.

  • Ok KD is one of my all time favourites as I still prefer brains to brawn. I dislike the constant talk about collisions etc. I would prefer a rob Louw (can’t believe I just said that) a Jean Pierre rive etc than a bunch of marauding behemoths with zero ball skills.

That said I believe KD is trying too hard. Time to relax and enjoy the game, then all will come together again.

  • @Gerrietheshark (Comment 24) : For me it was the game against the Brumbies where we just couldn’t get our hands on the ball, that showed me what a loss Bismarck was to the Sharks. Since he has been out of the team I have hardly seen the Sharks steal a ball on the ground or counter-ruck the opposition.

  • @jonnow (Comment 31) : Thing is as well, how this season our defence just seems to fan out and never counter ruck! Ridiculous. How are you ever going to get the ball if you don’t counter-ruck and don’t have fetcher, wait for opposition mistakes?!

  • @neilster (Comment 32) : Agree, it meant that the Sharks went for ages without the ball, the opposition just kept plugging away at our defence until a gap eventually opened up and they would score.

Maar JA….’rOOMER has IT’ IS AL WAT DIT IS.
