The Southern Kings have announced their team to take on the Sharks in Durban this weekend. The team looks a lot different to the one we’ve become used to over the last couple of months.

The Southern Kings opted to rest two of their most valuable players, captain Andries Strauss and points machine Demetri Catrakilis. Strauss will be replaced by Shane Gates, who has mostly been playing off the bench. Catrikilis will be replaced by George Whitehead.

Hadleigh Parkes makes his return on the wing after braking his arm against the Hurricanes during their second tour match, he replaces Michael Killian on the wing. Former Sharks player Waylon Murray also comes into the side to face his old team mates.

Among the forwards Wimpie van der Walt and Cornell du Preez gets a break and will be replaced by Mpho Mbiyozo and Devin Oosthuizen. Hannes Franklin also gets a start with star hooker Bandise Maku moving to the bench.

Thabo Mamojelle who also played for the Sharks will play off the bench alongside Baby Bok Aidon Davis.

Former Sharks lock Steven Sykes will lead his team onto the field.

  • So it’s more important for them to remain in the SR competition. than it is to actually play their SR games?! šŸ™„

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 3) : Iā€™m not sure if this is the right thing for them. Their key players will be out of competitive rugby for 3 weeks and injuries can happen on the training fields as well.

  • Hmm, I guess they looking to rest their players for the promo/relegation match then. We gonna give them a real hiding even with our centre problem. Just can’t see them being competitive without their key players. Besides vleis and sykes I don’t see any of them troubling us this weekend. Pity though. Really thought they were gonna try and challenge us instead they opt to settle for a mediocre performance in order to be fit for a game against lions. Mxm.

  • they should introduce a system like in the EPL where you HAVE to field the best possible team at all times. rotate players by all means but to field an essentially B team is a waste of opponents time (or really embarrassing if they lose)

  • @pierre_mackie (Comment 14) : True but it doesn’t mean they will fire against the Kings.
I’d still give the young guys a game that will form part of the core CC team, but hey that’s just me šŸ˜Æ
