The Blue Bulls ahve confirmed the signiature of Cheetahs scrumhalf Piet van Zyl on a two-year deal.

Their release reads as follows:

The Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd is pleased to announce that Piet van Zyl has agreed terms and will join the Vodacom Bulls on a two year contract from November 1st, 2013.

The Pretoria-born 23 year old scrumhalf made his Springbok debut in 2013 following some very good performances for his Super Rugby franchise, the Toyota Cheetahs.

Vodacom Bulls coach Frans Ludeke welcomed the news.

“Piet is an exciting youngster who brings a lot of energy and commitment to the field. His style of play will suit us and I am convinced that he will blossom in our playing style and structure. We have lost one Springbok in Jano Vermaak, so to replace him by another in Piet is fantastic for our depth,” Ludeke said.

BBC High Performance Manager, Xander Janse van Rensburg confirmed the deal.

“Piet will still play for the Toyota Free State in Currie Cup, but will join us on November 1st on a two year deal till 31 October 2015. We are very pleased to secure his services as he is one of the most promising and exciting young halfbacks in the country.”

  • These blue fools sure love their 2 year contracts, after which they’ll cut his fees in half and he’ll run off to Japan or Europe. 🙄

Yet another failure in the making, proudly presented by the blue fools Company (Pty) Ltd. 😆

But as Uli pointed out, we can’t blame the bulls for the stupidity of these players. Somebody has to make these mistakes, it might as well be this lot. 😈

If the bulls make it through the next few years with any relative success, then we’ll know the structures put in place by HM nearly a decade ago, is fool proof. 😉

  • The Bulls sure seem to be able to lure anyone outside the union with any discernible talent.
I can say this for certain:
Van Zyl’s game does not suit the Bulls and vice versa.

  • I just can’t understand players who are starting at one union to leave for another where they gonna struggle to start. Players like Jacque Louis potgieter leave a guaranteed starting spot at the cheetahs to sit on the bench at the bulls. Is bloem really that shit?

  • Why would he want to go play under Hougaard? What does these Bulls guys say to players that they will go to a team that won’t play them unless another player gets an injury.

“Don’t worry, he’s very injury prone?”

  • @Letgo (Comment 8) : Jano Vermaak got selected into the Springbok squad playing under Hougaard, perhaps Van Zyl hopes a similar selection policy applies? (This is not a sly jab at either Vermaak or Meyer by the way. If anything I think Vermaak should be ahead of Hougaard in the pecking order)

  • @Letgo (Comment 8) : Well, this year Hougaard was/is very injury prone. So there is some truth in that.
