PSdT, as he is more affectionately referred to here on Sharksworld came into the spotlight when he was a member of South African U20 squad that won the IRB Junior World Champs in 2012. Pieter-Steph was still playing age group rugby when he was thrust into the Sharks Senior Side but a season ending injury halfway through the year put halt to an outstanding senior debut season.
On return from injury in 2013, PSdT had an outstanding run that culminated him being called up to both springbok training camps for the June internationals.
Not long after the Sharks disappointing exit from the 2013 Super Rugby tournament, the rumours started flying regarding Pieter-Steph’s future at GrowthPoint Kings Park. He had been aggressively pursued by the Bulls and Western Province, but thanks to the new CEO, John Smit, PSdT has pledged the next two years of his career to the Sharks.
John Smit, The Sharks CEO stated on the official sharks website, “Pieter-Steph has shown great promise and he has had a positive impact on the team since joining the senior set-up. We are thrilled that he has reaffirmed his commitment to The Sharks.”
I’m sure we can expect a bright future from this versatile player who can play at both lock and flank.

WHAT A BOYTJIE!!!!!!!!
@R Hayward (Comment 1) : Was so glad when the news broke he was staying!
@The Hobbit (Comment 2) : Ja I nearly cried that day!
So another 2 years as shark, hope he become one of our all time great locks for us! and then decides on another 100 years at the sharks…
wishful thinking…
@The Hobbit (Comment 2) : Same here! Can’t help but think the signing of Wentzel had a big impact on his decision to stay with the Sharks.
@R Hayward (Comment 3) : I’m hoping the new management structure will entice players to have full careers at 1 union rather than hop from club to club looking for the best cash offer at the time.
@gregkaos (Comment 4) : I definitely think so… and hope it pays off.
@The Hobbit (Comment 5) : Me too!
