  • @Mutley (Comment 3) : kind of ironic retribution for the “try” that cost the Kings their Super Rugby place.

  • @robdylan (Comment 4) : I feel for the Kings, I know how it feels to not have Super Rugby, but at the moment the Lions aren’t strong enough to compete at Super Rugby level. We must use the Currie Cup to develop new players and identify where we need more players(Like scrumhalf)

  • I know this isn’t the right thread, but seeing as you guys brought it up…

This whole promotion/relegation thing really sucks!! I was one of those that was against the Kings being gifted a place in Superugby… I think this was based on a strong dislike of the Watson’s and out of the principal that politics shouldn’t medel in sport.

However, I became a fan of the Kings this season… their determination to succeed and ability to actually present a competitive side when all the cards were stacked against them. Considering they were given just 5 months notice to prepare and put a team together.

It therefore sucks that a missed penalty kick is the only thing denying the Kings another year in Superugby! 🙁

It has never made sense to have two teams within the same province playing Superugby when an entire province has no representation… AND the team now included is no better than the team excluded. AND… The team excluded has a much more supportive fan base!

This doesn’t make sense geographically… It’s a no brainer… The Lions should join the Bulls and the Kings should get their place. Had the Lions one both games convincingly it might have been a different argument… But they didn’t, and in the end an intercept try and a missed penalty has determined their fate!

  • The sooner we see the back of Meyer the better, the man is clueless. I really do not get it. They say the man is single minded, has a plan and will execute the plan no matter what and with that plan comes the same single mindedness with the selection of players.

Can it get any worse than the selection of fat Guthro Steenkamp who cant make the Toulousse starting 15. We have experienced props in the squad in Jannie and Beast, we have the almost established Coenie as the back-up, so why the fuck do we need a fat, unfit Steenkamp in the squad? What does that say to Kitshoff who has had a coming of age season for the Stormers. I had little time for Meyer prior to the selection of his squad, but this squad is the nail in the coffin for me.

Meyer’s love affair with Kirchner continues, mark my word he will start ahead of Willie come that first test. Then we have the useless Basson on the wing, picked because he is great at plucking Morne’s bombs, stuff the fact that he is physically out of his depth, adds nothing with ball in hand and is a defensive liability.

For how much longer are we going to see de Jongh in the set up, this has Jake and Adi Jacobs written all over it. de Jongh is a handy little player, but a test centre he is not, not even close. There is no need for him in the squad, move on.

With Morne at 10 and du Preez at 9, with Pienaar on the bench – wow, what are our tactics going to be? This clown just cant move on……its going to be kick, kick, kick with Basson and Habana chasing. When the ball is returned to the back, we will have the wonderfully gifted Kirchner launching yet another bomb…….once the game is well and truely lost, the inspirational Meyer will be sending Willie on to weave his magic!!

Meyer might think he will be playing 10 man rugby, but sadly with no grunt at 5, that plan is flawed. When will this twit wake up to the fact that Juandre Kruger and Franco v/d Merwe are not test locks – hell given his desire for the past, why is he not begging Matfield to come out of retirement.

I am surprised Bakkies is not in the squad, or CJ v/d Linde……we can thank our lucky stars Spies is injured.

We really are on the road to nowhere with Meyer, the man is just far too conservative and narrow minded to make a success of international rugby. His record was 58% last year, expect no improvement on that this year. His selections piss me off to say the least.

  • @R Hayward (Comment 10) : It’s a serious question – would like to know how he’s doing.

If you haven’t seen him play recently then it silly to say his time is over. He is only 31 and may yet still have a few good years in him.

  • Perhaps we should wait until the 1st game and see. Unfortunately it’s against the Pumas. What can they do? I just feel that we have PLENTY of youngsters that should be taken now and prepped for the next WC. As we all know your stint as a bok coach is just from WC to WC. I am a firm believer in selecting your best 15 ALL the time and when young talent is spotted BRING them into the system and blood them with your experienced players to become even GREATER springboks in the future.

  • @Saffex (Comment 11) : I agree with a lot of what you said, but I would bet you a fair amount of money that Meyer will go with le Roux to start.

Props: Herbst and maybe Kitshoff are missing with Steenkamp there also stupid.

    Loosies: Deysel should be there.

Scrumies: du Preez a bit old but we are running thin on quality 9s. I would have liked to see van Zyl get another shot.

Flyhalves: The fact that Lambie is in there as flyhalf/fullback means he will be benched which is wrong.

Centres: I can’t wait until we get Steyn back so he can play 13. That’s power and a fair amount of pace! Leave the real pace to the wings, Steyn is our best 13.

    Wings: Pity about Pietersen…

Fullbacks: Kirchner inclusion boggles the mind. Glad to see le Roux though.
