Another blow for S’bura – updated

We haven’t had a full injury report from the Sharks camp after Friday night’s warm-up game against the KZN All Stars; there is, however, one unfortunate causalty that we can report.

Wing Sibusiso Sithole – better known as S’bura – suffered a hand fracture during the first quarter of the match and was thus replaced earlier than intended by Sean Robinson, who went on to finish the match in the number 14 jersey.

It’s not yet clear how long the injury will keep Sithole out of action, but since he was named as a member of the “shadow first team” for Friday night’s opener, this latest setback will be a bitter blow in a season that has already had its share of disappointments for the former Queens head boy. The Sharks will now have to scratch their heads ahead of Friday night’s Currie Cup opener, but will at least have left wing well covered, thanks to the bizarre decision to omit Lwazi Mvovo from the Springbok Rugby Championship group.

We’re hoping that today’s scan will reveal good news for Sithole and that he’ll be back during the course of the season to further stake his claim at wing.

The Sharks Currie Cup squad will be named at a  press conference at Kings Park this afternoon.

Update: The Sharks have confirmed that Sithole will be out of action for 6 weeks.
