Born in uMthata on the 3rd June 1986, Lwazi attended Maria Louw High School in Queenstown, Eastern Cape before moving to KZN in 2006.
In his time at the Sharks, Lwazi has proven to be quick on his feet and one of the fastest players in South Africa. Apart from speed, he is also strong on defence and has developed his kicking and chasing game a lot in 2012.
Lwazi was part of the 2010 Currie cup winning side, ending the tournament as the second highest try scorer with 12 tries to his name (Bjorn Basson who was with the Griquas at the time scored an impressive 21 that season). He again impressed in the Super Rugby competition when he tied for the second highest try scorer, once more, with 6.
Lwazi made his Springbok debut in the 21-11 loss to Scotland at Murryfield on 20th November 2010. The following week he scored his first international try in the 21-17 victory against England at Twickenham.
Lwazi has represented the Sharks 98 times across Super Rugby and Currie Cup and having already reached his 50-cap milestone in the former (he now stands on 52 Super Rugby caps) is set to achieve two more milestones this season; a half-century of Currie Cup caps, as well as 100 appearances for the Sharks in all competitions. He has scored 17 tries in Super Rugby to date – and 21 more in the Currie Cup.
