Paul Anthony’s Blue Bulls under 19 side – packed to the rafters with age-group stars as always – overcame a spirited showing from their less facied Sharks opponents at Kings Park on Friday afternoon, running out 28-19 winners.

It took a veritable blitzkrieg from the visitors, though, to secure a result that was starting to look like it was going against the script. With flyhalf Jean-Luc du Plessis in great form and controlling the game well for the Sharks, the Bulls found themselves trailing with 15 minutes to play; a 13-all stalemate at half-time had been broken by du Plessis, with two penalties in the second half handing his side a 19-13 advantage.

The Bulls, though, are not champions at this level for nothing and scored 15 unanswered points in that final period to cruelly deny the Sharks any log points form a game that many feel they performed better in than the scoreline would suggest.

Sharks (19): Try Barend Potgieter. Conversion Jean-Luc du Plessis. Penalties du Plessis (4).
Bulls (28): Tries Keagon Gordon, Pierre Schoeman, Wilco Louw. Conversions Kobus Marais (2). Penalties Marais (3).
