Zane Kirchner and Chiliboy Ralapelle have been added to the Springbok squad to travel to Australia and New Zealand to take on the Wallabies and the All Blacks over the next few weekends.
A squad of 28 players has been announced to travel, with the 26 players that flew to Argentina being kept and Ralapelle and Kirchner added to the group. Ralepelle missed the trip to Argentina thanks to an injury while Kirchner is added to the squad as fullback cover.
Lourens Adriaanse keeps his spot in the squad with Trevor Nyakane overlooked.
The 28-man Springbok squad to Australia and New Zealand:
Forwards (16): Lourens Adriaanse, Willem Alberts, Marcell Coetzee, Bismarck du Plessis, Jannie du Plessis, Eben Etzebeth, Siya Kolisi, Juandré Kruger, Francois Louw, Tendai Mtawarira, Coenie Oosthuizen, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Gurthrö Steenkamp, Adriaan Strauss, Flip van der Merwe, Duane Vermeulen.
Backs (12): Bjorn Basson, Jean de Villiers (captain), JJ Engelbrecht, Bryan Habana, Zane Kirchner, Patrick Lambie, Willie le Roux, Ruan Pienaar, Jan Serfontein, Morné Steyn, Piet van Zyl, Jano Vermaak.

Is this a damn joke? HM is basically encouraging all young players to go play a few years for the Bulls then go overseas! You’ll still be picked for the Bokke! How the hell is this farce being allowed by SARU? Every damn player will be looking to go make some big money in France/Japan. Useless.
I smell a shift for le Roux to wing (in place of Basson) with Kirchner coming in at fullback but dear Lord do I hope I’m wrong.
I agree with vanmartin — and that means that Patrick Lambie will, once again, be overlooked by HM !! This is bloody ridiculous ! 🙁 🙄
@PTAShark (Comment 1) : this Meyer person has the means to single-handedly destroy SA rugby, and he is using it for the sake of his own CV. What kills me are the scribes across the whole internet, who make the public feel that we are the backward ones. The ones that are not embracing professionalism. It is the contrary. Rugby is not Soccer. I have no problem with players going overseas for money. But you CANT EAT YOUR CAKE ffs. Your provincial contract supplemented with your springbok contract is enough to keep you here. But if youre gonna get picked anyways, why stay? 5 year old children can see what all this ads up to. Now we have this slapgat in charge bowing to demands of clubs! Sending our finest players overseas in the middle of the Championship! We are the Springboks for f sake! grow a pair.
PS. to all the “rugby must follow soccer, because its prof%#@*nal” advocates… Quickly name 2 brazillian soccer clubs. Big ones. The size of Man U or Real
@vanmartin (Comment 2) : I smell an exodus of young talent. I smell overseas clubs becoming reluctant to release players for international duty. I smell a reversal of selection policy once we start losing as a result. I smell the near bankruptcy of SA Rugby (and the unions) trying to buy back some of the lost talent so that we can start winning again!
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 4) : Couldn’t agree more. This idiocy is going to bite us hard in the ass some time in the future.
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 4) : No-one is bowing to anyone’s demands. It’s IRB regulations. It is also not the first time. England have also had their problems with players at french clubs not being released for training camps etc outside of the IRB window.
To think that an international coach can tell privately owned clubs, who pay millions for these top players, when and where they can have access to said players is extremely naive.
@McLovin (Comment 7) : i hear you, but we shouldnt be in the situation in the first place. We are the Springboks
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 9) : “We are the Springboks” unfortunately carries no weight in the boardroom.
The players have to serve their pay masters.
What, no love for Krusty?
I think we might see Lambie at 15 and Willie on the wing and I honestly don’t know how I feel about it. 🙄
let Pat Lambie come home and play for the Sharks. At least that way he’ll get some game time. HM wants him out of the way of everyone so that he gets no game time then the Bulls can shine! Practice makes perfect! HM is out of the Voortrekker Movement!
@mclovin. The ABs have superstar league players taking 50% pay cuts for just a shot at wearing the jersey. We are begging clubs to borrow their players. Then we do it on their terms. We have become weak. face it, please
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 13) : Who are these League superstars nogal?
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 13) : No-one is being weak. There are regulations to abide by. Same for everybody. NZ will also in future loosen it’s grip somewhat. Too much money to be made.
Everybody Calm Down, We’ve all had a drink
I for one will pass judgment in the up and coming end of year tour, rather than now. HM cant expect to pick a team straight after the S15 when most of his stars have left leaving him 7 down (i stand corrected). However, if he continues to pick mainly overseas based players come end of year tour then we can panic and say goodbye to local rugby as we know it.
@McLovin (Comment 14) : brad thorne. SBW, benji marshall
@The Hobbit (Comment 16) : Some would do well to just calm down into a mild panic.
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 17) : Where are they now? Who took a pay cut? Any proof of this 50% cut you are claiming?
@McLovin (Comment 15) : btw I can see the points you make. valid points. i just dont agree we have to kill the bulls and sharks and the stormers. The springbok jersey is the biggest bargaining chip when it comes to negotiating with the biggest players. But your boy Heyneke has given that up very cheaply

@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 20) : Maybe you are right. I’m taking the wait and see approach for now.
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 21) : Thanks, but that’s just one player. An exception rather than the rule.
@McLovin (Comment 22) : nothing else we can do. 🙂
Meyer is quickly going down as a very poor choice as coach. This guy has absolutely no idea. For a start, Basson, Jean, Morne, Pienaar, Jannie, Kruger, Louw, Alberts and Vermeulen are not the best in their respective positions. The selection of Steenkamp is nothing short of an insult…….bringing Kirchner back is a joke.
Its bad enough this man cant select the best players, he is incapable of executing a gameplan that is in touch with modern rugby.
The sooner Meyer gets sacked the better. His axing of Nkanyane may help
@Saffex (Comment 25) : preach brother
@Saffex (Comment 25) : I can agree on Alberts possibly, definitely Basson and Pienaar, but who’s better than the other okes?
@Saffex (Comment 25) : Basson, yes. Jean is in there for his leadership in an otherwise young backline. Morné, yes. Pienaar, dear lord yes. Jannie is by far the best in his position. Kruger, maybe but he’s certainly nothing to complain about. Louw is perhaps second to Brussow, but is still very good. Alberts can single handedly provide go forward. Other than maybe an on form Kanko (who is unavailable anyway) who is better than Vermeulen? I completely agree about Gurthro and Kirchner.
I see a lot of crying and bitching, did Bokke loose the first two games?!?!
@JD (Comment 29) : Howsit JD? Ask me that question in 3 weeks from now 😥
@[email protected] (Comment 12) : Calm down with the insults. Where do you want him to play? Fullback is occupied by probably our best backline player and flyhalf by the most inform flyhalf. Every good team needs a good bench and Lambie is on it.
I am not fond of Kirchner either, but who is to say he will even play?
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 4) : corinthians and Santos
@Pokkel (Comment 11) : I’d be happier with that selection. Hope it’s the one Meyer decides on.
@David12246 (Comment 28) : “Kruger, maybe but he’s certainly nothing to complain about.” Ai Amigo ,you craaazzy brother.
I would have Morne Steyn at lock before Kruger 😆
@JD (Comment 29) : No ,we only just managed to beat the 10th best side in the world…
I wouldnt mind seeing this backline;
9.Du Preez
10.Pienaar(still his best position in my opinion)/otherwise Goosen/Jantjies
11.Willie Le Roux
12.Frans Steyn
13.Jaque Fourie
14.JPP
15.Lambie
-have Lambie and Le Roux come in at first receiver on second and third phase ball .
On defense line up guys like Goosen at wing/fullback and have a guy like JPP slip into the centers to defend while Steyn/Lambie would mark the 10 channel.
Food for thought ,but as things are we are showing no innovation or variety!
@[email protected] (Comment 12) :
in that case the whole Lions team should be called up to the Boks !!! 😛
@Ludz (Comment 27) : Serfontein is better than Jean, de Jager is better than Kruger (move Etzebeth to 5)Lambie is far better than Morne, Coenie is better than Jannie, Brussouw and Kolisi are better than Louw, CJ Stander is better than Vermeulen……the same CJ who said if Meyer gave him the call he would play for the Boks…..but Meyer is too stupid to cash in on this lad.
@David12246 (Comment 28) : Coenie is better than Jannie. There is nothing special about Jean’s leadership, in fact where was it on Sat? Kruger is a liability in that he does nothing. He is physically not up to test rugby, provides no grunt and is nothing special in the line-outs. We have 10 better locks available to us and I am not kidding.
@Talent (Comment 34) : By 60 points in SA and away in their home town, just give the team a chance before we start to bitch!!!!!!!
@Saffex (Comment 37) : guess it’s your opinion, but can’t agree with any of those especially on Coenie and Lood de Jager, the oke has massive potential, but has a long way to go. Coenie at 3 is a disaster and you know it
