The Bulls look set to continue to struggle with injury concerns, after injuries incurred against the Sharks add to a growing list of players on the sideline. reports that Morne Mellett and Jono Ross will only look to train from Wednesday, and could be doubtful for the match against the Cheetahs this Saturday. Francois Venter, who left the field during play on Saturday, has begun training and looks set to take his spot in the Bulls midfield.

The injuries to Mellett and Ross add to those picked up by Tony Jantjies and Travis Ismaiel in the previous match, both players already ruled out of contention for this weekend’s match. Longer term injuries rule out Jean Cook and Callie Visagie, who are both set to miss at least another month’s action.

Below are the players who will take no part in Currie Cup action:

Basil Short (knee, 5 months), Francois Hougaard (ankle, 5 months), Cornell Hess (knee, 6 weeks), Deon Stegmann (shoulder, 5 months), Arno Botha (knee, 2 months), Pierre Spies (bicep, 3 months), Louis Fouchè (knee, 3 months).

  • I think Tony Jantjies’ injury has only opened the door earlier for Pollard to get a go.

He looked good against the Sharks. I am not to follow the schoolboy hype, but he stood firm and with a few years experience could well be running the show in SA Rugby, but he needs to put in the hard graft

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 2) : I think it was only a matter of time. He overtook Jantjies at u/19 and u/21 level as well as at the u/20 wc. All 3 times Jantjies was the initial first choice.
