South Africa’s sixth sense

South Africa will, from 2016, have six Super Rugby franchises in Super Rugby.

According to SANZAR’s Greg Peters and SARU CEO Jurie Roux, a sixth South African franchise will be included once Super Rugby expands in 2016.

SARU have made secret of the fact that a sixth team is what is needed to rectify the imbalance within South African rugby, and that wish may now have finally come true.

How exactly this is handled over the following two years remains to be seen, but we can only hope for clarity, accountability and transparency in all negotiations.

Get it right SARU, that is all we want.

  • pathetic, they killing S rugby, going from bad to worst…

I dont have a problem with the Kings, but the format, and the amount of teams playing is not a pretty one. S rugby is pretty boring the last two years.

  • Killing the proverbial goose.

I predict less viewers and less fans going to games every year until they realise that the expanded system is a loadofshit.

  • @John Galt (Comment 2) : they wont do anything about it, they will just try and expand and expand until its dead. they will look at other continents to draw viewers until its dead there I predict S rugby to be dead by 2025

  • Let’s hope they go for a two tier system with 10 teams in top and 10-12 teams in lower tier.
