The Sharks have released a medical report ahead of the second round of Currie Cup games. While details on return dates are, for the most part, sketchy, one thing is clear: Pieter-Steph du Toit is ready for selection this weekend.
Du Toit played a big role for the Sharks in Super Rugby this year, despite his youth, but has been on the sidelines for roughly three months as the result of a sternal injury. While it’s widely anticipated that he’ll be called up to Heyneke Meyer’s Springbok squad for the home leg of the Rugby championship, for the time being, Steph is fit and available for the Sharks; his return couldn’t come at a better time, given Marco Wentzel’s unfortunate injury.
The other good news is that whatever forced Cobus Reinach from the field early on against Province on Saturday clearly isn’t serious enough to put him in doubt for this weekend’s trip to Kimberley; his name doesn’t feature on the list at all, meaning he’s presumably fit for selection.
S’bura Sithole is “almost ready for selection”, which I take to mean he’ll be back in another week or two; Anton Bresler however remains on the injured list but is “coming along nicely” after undergoing a secondary procedure a few weeks ago. Others whose recovery is on track, but with no return date set, are Francois Steyn and Paul Jordaan; we believe the former should play again this season, while the latter definitely won’t.

Awesome!!!
Welcome back PSdT! Also looking forward to your inevitable Bok call-up!
WHOOOOOOHAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please refresh my memory what happened to Bresler
Great timing!
WooooHoooooo…!!!! Thts awesome news esp on a Monday. Welcome back PSdT!!
Well I suppose, after the hiding of this weekend, just having somebody in the starting line-up whose passport says he was born i the Western Cape would make any Sharks fan feel so much better…
@VinChainSaw (Comment 7) : kind of embarrassing for you guys that he opted not to return for more money than the Sharks were willing to pay 🙂
@robdylan (Comment 8) :
Nah dude, you’re wrong.
He chose to be a superstar in Natal, as opposed to returning to Cape Town and playing second fiddle to the might that is Eben Etsebeth for the next few years.
@VinChainSaw (Comment 9) : oh LOL… that was nicely done. And might even have been true were it not for the fact that you generally have 2 locks in a team.
I’ll forgive you for not knowing that cos you’re a back.
@robdylan (Comment 10) :
Race has nothing to do with it.
@VinChainSaw (Comment 11) :
😯
Hey Rob any truth in the rumour that Sykes is coming home to help Sharks with the lock problems?
@JD (Comment 14) : I haven’t heard that…. I can check it though.
@JD (Comment 14) : I don’t think it’s happening at the moment… pity, because it would make sense.
No need to check Rob was just taking a chance. More in hope than in fact.
@JD (Comment 17) : LOL 🙂
@robdylan (Comment 10) : Ah Rob, I had you picked as a back. I guess I was quite wrong.
Welcome back PSDT, we missed you. Would also love to have Sykes back. Need to add some steel to that tight 5. Would be happy with PSDT, Sykes, Anton and Hewit as our locks going forward.
@VinChainSaw (Comment 9) : Why would he be playing second fiddle to Etzebeth, he would/will be playing alongside Etzebeth……..its no secret Meyer wants PSDT at 5

Louis ludik must not play centre he takes away attacking option and dies with the ball i will rather have him on the wing in place of maseko i think heimar and tim can make a good centre combo with tim at 13
@David12246 (Comment 19) : naught China. I started as a lock, then later blindside flank
@JD (Comment 17) : the offer is on the table but the Sharks aren’t picking it up.
Great news that Steph is back
– even though it wouldn’t be too long until HM takes him away 😥
@VinChainSaw (Comment 7) :Wow losing by 6 pts is now regarded as a hiding 😯 time to quit the green stuff boet
@RedSharkUtd82 (Comment 27) : You misunderstand the WP way of thinking – it has nothing to do with winning or losing. It’s considered a hiding because they managed to score some tries against the opposition.
@vanmartin (Comment 28) : WP way of thinking – BOO the player who is earning his 50th cap. For such a superior space on earth they really house some “special ones”
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 29) : I agree
@vanmartin (Comment 28) : Ahhh I see lol thanx for helping me understand the wp way of thinking 😉
