Western Province skipper Deon Fourie will attend a disciplinary hearing today, after being cited for dangerous play during his team’s weekend Currie Cup match against the Sharks.
Fourie is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (m) by making contact with the face of Sharks opposite number Keegan Daniel in the 12th minute of the match. The two went to ground in an off-the-ball scuffle, with Daniel forced to leave the field shortly afterwards due to a bloody face; the former Sharks skipper was quick to tweet in Fourie’s defence after the game, claiming that Fourie had not gouged his eye.
The citing commissioner clearly felt differently – or at least believes that there’s something in the video footage that warrants a further look.
Fourie’s hearing takes place at midday in Cape Town, which means we can probably expect a verdict sometime around the end of October.

doos, I really don’t like him! doos.
At first I thought there was nothing in it, but after watching the replay I actually thought the shove in the face was deliberate – wouldn’t call it eye gouging though..
Nonetheless I’ll have a beer and a laugh if he gets banned for a week or two lol
Keegan tweeted after the game that there was no contact with the eyes
I find he generally runs on the very thin line between what is legal and what is not, he learns early in the game what he can get away with. Not too different to how most NZ loose forwards play. He could get the wrong ref and cost his team. The type of player who you admire in your team and hate in an opposing side. Not much love for him here in Sharkland.
not a fan of this little worm at all, always looking to stir crap no matter which team he plays against….kind of like Cooper against McCaw, except Fourie is like that with everyone.
Someone should flatten him and Aplon, do the same thing.
Will probably be found guilty. If ‘contact with the face’ is the charge.
@McLovin (Comment 8) : you seen pictures of Keegan today?
Don’t see him getting away with that.
@robdylan (Comment 9) : Not looking good for Fourie.
Looks eina!
@robdylan (Comment 9) : looking more like the dude from the Goonies 😛
@McLovin (Comment 10) : judgement “reserved”…. what does that mean?
@FireTheLooser (Comment 6) :
And that’s a bad thing?
A very intelligent rugby player.
@robdylan (Comment 9) : @McLovin (Comment 10) :
Agh tsssk. Thats just pink eye.
@VinChainSaw (Comment 14) : He lacks subtlety…
@FireTheLooser (Comment 16) :
Subtle like Bismarck, or subtle like Burger?
@robdylan (Comment 13) : Not a clue.
@VinChainSaw (Comment 15) : Probably cut himself shaving.
@robdylan (Comment 13) : can you please give me the link to the “Get to know your team Butch James”
Thanks
@DBOY (Comment 20) : http://www.sharksworld.co.za/2013/09/06/get-to-know-your-team-butch-james/
@robdylan (Comment 9) : Can you confirm that that injury is from the Fourie incident though?
As much as I’d like Fourie and his dirty play to be booted for a good few months, we cant just say the injury was caused by Fourie unless we know.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 22) : well, no I guess not 100%. But I know that Keegan didn’t have that injury when he took the field.
I also know that the only time he left the field for blood was immediately after the tussle with Fourie. Also, from the looks of that injury, it probably bled a bit, hence putting 1 + 1 + 1 together.
@VinChainSaw (Comment 17) : Between Burger and Bismarck, who’s been banned for eye gouging? 😉
I reckon he needs to be as subtle as Bismarck 😀
@FireTheLooser (Comment 24) : Well played sir 🙂
