Both Philip van der Walt (number 8) and Lood de Jager (lock) have been ruled out of action for the coming weekend, forcing Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske to reshuffle his forward deck for the Currie Cup match against the Lions.

The players, who have carried a heavy workload across Super Rugby and Currie cup this year, given the Cheetahs’ lack of depth, both broke down against the Bulls on Saturday. Van der Walt picked up a shoulder injury, while a blow to the head caused concussion for de Jager. Waltie Vermuelen comes straight back into the side, after missing the last few weeks, to partner Oupa Mohoje in the second row. Van der Walt’s regular spot at the back of the scrum goes to Bok tourist Davon Raubenheimer.

Freddie Ngoza and Tertius Daniller are the new men on the bench, with the latter (whose brother Hennie starts at fullback) set to make his Currie Cup debut for the Cheetahs.

Cheetahs: 15 Hennie Daniller, 14 Riaan Smit, 13 Johann Sadie, 12 Robert Ebersohn, 11 Raymond Rhule, 10 Elgar Watts, 9 Sarel Pretorius, 8 Davon Raubenheimer, 7 Pieter Labuschagne, 6 Boom Prinsloo (captain), 5 Waltie Vermeulen, 4 Teboho Mohoje, 3 Rossouw de Klerk, 2 Hercu Liebenberg, 1 Trevor Nyakane.
Replacements: 16 Ethienne Reynecke, 17 Wian du Preez, 18 Freddie Ngoza, 19 Tertius Daniller, 20 Kevin Luiters, 21 Willie du Plessis, 22 Piet Lindeque.
