The Sharks have confirmed that captain Jacques Botes will be rested for this weekend’s game against the Cheetahs.
Marcell Coetzee, released form the Springbok squad, will clearly enjoy game time in Botes’ stead, with Keegan Daniel likely to reclaim the captaincy and probably the number 8 jersey as well.
Botes needs just a cap or two (sources differ on the exact details) in order to eclipse Helgaard Muller’s record for most career Currie Cup games, but it seems he’ll need to hang on another week or two to achieve that notable milestone.

Daniel back as captain yippee…. 🙁
I would like to see 6. Keegan 7. Deysel 8. Mtembu with Marcel on the bench
Surely Downey must get game time or whats the point of having him there? Same with Van Tonder? If you gonna pick a guy in the 22 then play him otherwise rather pick another forward.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 1) : I second your sarcasm and disappointment!!!
Chumlee for captain!!!! Keegan 6, Downey 7, Marcell 8 and Deysel on bench.
Marcell still exists?? 😯
I would give Deysel a rest along with Botes and play Mtembu as well. Making the loose forwards:
6. Daniel (c)
7. Coetzee
8. Mtembu
19. Downey/Deysel
I really enjoyed Botes as Captain and No 8. He played out of his skin!
Any idea when Stander will be back? Liked him at the start of the CC.
I hope heimar is back this week really want to see him and tim pair up in midfield
