Cheetahs loose forward Philip van der Walt, who was initially included on the bench for this weekend’s Durban clash against the Sharks, has been ruled out.

Van der walt sat out last week’s game against the Lions due to a shoulder knock but was thought to have recovered sufficiently for a replacement role against the Sharks. As of yesterday, though, the joint was still causing him discomfort, according to Beeld and the decision was thus made to replace him with Freddy Ngoza.

Ngoza served as replacement lock last week, but was dropped from the 22 to accommodate the returning Lood de Jager, whose 1-week absence due to concussion should perhaps also raise an eyebrow or two.

Cheetahs (revised): 15. Hennie Daniller, 14. Riaan Smit, 13. Johann Sadie, 12. Robert Ebersohn, 11. Raymond Rhule, 10. Elgar Watts, 9. Sarel Pretorius, 8. Davon Raubenheimer, 7. Lappies Labuschagné, 6. Boom Prinsloo (captain), 5. Waltie Vermeulen, 4. Lood de Jager, 3. Rossouw de Klerk, 2 Hercu Liebenberg 1. Trevor Nyakane.
Replacements – 16. AJ le Roux, 17. Schalk van der Merwe, 18. Oupa Mohoje, 19. Freddy Ngoza, 20. Piet van Zyl, 21. Rayno Benjamin, 22. Willie du Plessis.

  • Jis ouens you know that his weekends game is an extremely important one? I foresee that WP will pick up 5 points against the kwaste… therefore if we loose this one the WP have practically confirmed a home semi and possibly final spot! If we can then beat the spotted cats, we’ll at least stay in touch with WP.

  • Hows about a thread re: the reported expansion of the CC premier division next year?

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 4) : I’ll wait for the confirmed expansion, I think.

  • @robdylan (Comment 5) : Yeah I saw that Beeld broke the story, which is why I said “reported”.

But if it is true, I think it’s the right move.

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 6) : I agree, but waiting for the dust to settle a bit.

Far too many haters just seem to want to vent about the Kings and “entitlement”, soos blerrie gewoonlik. It’s an old story and I’m not in the mood today.

  • I was actually wondering (and even looking forward to) what would happen if the bulls finished last and actually had to be in a relegation playoff scenario…but alas, that dream seems to have been taken away, with 8 teams set to be included 😉
