Griquas suffered a bitter blow yesterday, with the news that both their head and assistant coaches will leave Kimberley at the end of the 2013 Currie Cup.

Head coach Pote Human has been appointed as Nollis Marais’s successor at the helm of Varsity Cup champions Tukkies. He’ll move back to Pretoria (where he served as Blue Bulls Currie Cup coach some years ago) in November to take on an all-encompassing role at the University of Pretoria that will involve coaching the senior team in the Carlton Cup, USSA tournament and the Predator series, in addition to the flagship Varsity Cup competition.

Marais is set to concentrate on the Blue Bulls Vodacom Cup and under 21 sides full time from next season.

Meanwhile, Human’s assistant at Griquas, Abrie Minnie, has confirmed he too will leave at the end of the season to pursue a business opportunity in the Cape.

Griquas will hope to announce a new coaching team before the end of the year.

  • Ouch, that must hurt! And if the Pumas get a Currie Cup place next year I’d expect Stonehouse to stick with his current team.
