Pine Pienaar is acting like the proverbial “monkey with a keyboard”, this week – picking names at random in the hope that his outgunned Blue Bulls team can finally find some sort of winning form.

This week’s changes see Handre Pollard back at flyhalf, with William Small-Smith starting at outside centre for the first time and Jurgen Visser again restored to the number 15 jersey. Samplie Mastriet comes in for Bjorn Basson as well. Up front, he’s brought in lock David Bulbring to shore up his tight five.

Hooker Bongi Mbinambi is fit again and takes his place on the bench; both Tony Jantjies and Jaco Visagie have returned to the under 21 ranks, while Wilhelm Steenkamp has been dropped altogether.

Blue Bulls: 15 Jurgen Visser, 14 Sampie Mastriet, 13 William Small-Smith, 12 Francois Venter, 11 Akona Ndungane, 10 HandrΓ© Pollard, 9 Rudy Paige, 8 Jono Ross (captain), 7 Jacques du Plessis, 6 Wiaan Liebenberg, 5 David Bulbring, 4 Paul Willemse, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 Bandise Maku, 1 Marcel van der Merwe

Substitutes: 16 Mbongeni Mbonambi, 17 Frik Kirsten/Dean Greyling, 18 Grant Hattingh, 19 Jacques Engelbrecht, 20 Lohan Jacobs, 21 Ulrich Beyers, 22 Clayton Blommetjies

  • That’s a pretty decent looking team.

  • Bulls should go look in American McDonalds, they’d find larger people to recruit there πŸ˜†

They’re a hopeless, braindead ,anti-progressive ,weight lifting group with weee tiny nads.

  • @Talent (Comment 5) : But don’t forget, they’ve won 3 SR titles 😈

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 6) : Those 3 SR titles have probably been the worst thing to happen to Springbok Rugby in recent times…

  • @Talent (Comment 7) : You know you’re right, that Bulls SR victory in 2007 really messed up any chance of the Boks winning the RWC that year. Oh wait a minute they did win, I suppose winning the RWC is one of the worst things to happen to Bok rugby (according to Talent).

  • @Dancing Bear (Comment 8) : What book on Rugby did you read that winning Super Rugby in a world cup year means you’ll win the tournament? hmmm

No ,the Bulls must take all credit for winning the world cup…

  • Pine has thrown out some dead wood. Still some remaining, but at least he made a start with Hattingh, Jantjies and Murray – oh and Steenkamp.
So things look a lot better in this regard. Just don’t know why it took so long.

See Jantjies is not even starting the U/21 game.

  • Why Bjorn Basson? He scored some brilliant tries last game? ❓

  • @McLovin (Comment 4) : With his resignation from the Brumbies he has been linked (rugby15 news) to the Sharks and Western Province. He was seen at a WP practice session this week. He’s worked with Coetzee before, maybe he might accept director of rugby there. He wanted to return to SA because his family stayed here and did not go to Aus with him. Also the Sharks do not have a confirmed coach for the S15, but I’m not sure he would accept head coach for S15 under Brendan Venter as Director.Maybe I’m talking kak!

  • From Beeld:

Kaapstad.

  • Let us not forget that the Bulls are a young team and they dont possess the physical and mental attributes of past Bulls teams, hence their application of the tried and tested Bulls gameplan isnt working as well. These are young guys and young guys make mistakes, they all do. The Bulls game plan, like the Boks relies on the players not making mistakes and applying pressure early and taking points to build a lead. If they fall behind these guys then panic as they are not sure how to win from there, much like the Boks. Only difference is the Boks have more experienced guys that dont panic as much. Continuity is needed at the Bulls in order for them to start building performances.

If he does come I would be happy, but I am worried that he would also just one day wake up and leave the Sharks.
