Hey everyone. I arrived back home late yesterday after my sudden trip to the States and as I’m sure you can all understand, my first and most pressing priority (after giving my family some much -needed attention) was to try and catch up on sleep!
I’m still a little bleary-eyed here – and trying to convince myself that it’s not actually 1:30 am – but I thought I should throw up a quick note to again apologise for my sudden departure and the associated lack of the articles that you’ve all come to know and expect.
I’m going to start trying to catch up now – and will start with Fantasy League, which still needs to be updated after the last round. SARU’s last-minute change to the semi-final qualification rules mean that my log program is broken, so while I will update the log, it’s going to show the Lions above the Cheetahs, not the other way round, until I find a way to fix it. Since I didn’t manage to watch the Sharks-Province match (and really don’t intend to go back and do so given the result) I’m not going to be doing player ratings or statistics this week – I assure you, though, we’ll be back in business with those regular articles starting from next week.
Thanks again for sticking with us and I’ll do my best to get us back up to speed this week. A big thank-you to Richard, Maria and Kara for their help during my absence.

Chips ! hier kom die Fish ! act busy ! 😛
Welcome back !!!
On the Currie Cup log situation .. What the hell ? does it not make more sens to take the over all points difference ?
Once again SARU kicks everybody in the balls …
Welcome back boss.
@Zibbie (Comment 1) :
I actually think the new rule is a great way of separating the teams, but surely this could have been discussed and decided on before the last week of the group stages?!
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 2) : turns out it wasn’t so bad.
I just need to make a change to consider total wins ahead of points difference – like they do in SR – and it will come right
@robdylan (Comment 3) : Welcome back Rob. Looking forward to the build up with you during this week! (Give us that “believe” ala 2008/2010 !!!!!!)
Jis Rob!
There seems to be a cock up with the Fantasy League Leaderboard, some of the leaders last week has been docked all previous points and only scored for this round 😯 I LOVE IT !!!
@Ekkies XV (Comment 6) : woah – don’t say that
@Ekkies XV (Comment 6) : Yeah, I’m back in first place again, but I don’t think I should be. Some people did better than me this round but their total score seems to have become their round 10 score! Also, the people at the top don’t seem to have had there round 10 score added to their total score. 😕
Maybe I should have kept quiet since I’m winning but oh well! 😆
@robdylan (Comment 7) : Maybe you should just leave it? I won’t complain!
Nah, winning is only fun when you play fairly!
@Ekkies XV (Comment 6) : ok – think it’s fixed now
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 2) :
i dont agree . but hey . thats the way the cookie crumbles 😛
@Zibbie (Comment 11) : speaks volumes that you guys would rather play us in Durbs than Province in Cape Town 🙁
@robdylan (Comment 12) :
im not too confident for a Lions win either way .. But we will see . Clutching to the memories from 2011 . but then again home semi and final back then .
Rob, it wasn’t all doom and gloom. We played the Goats in Cape Town weather YET AGAIN. Unfortunately Fred had a stinker (although we forgive him because he’s been great so far this season). Pat came on at half time and while he was excellent in general play, missed 2 relative sitters of penalties which would have won us the game.
For Wee Pee, Kitshoff was unbelievable, both in the scrum and general play. That boy is going to be s star….his tackle rate was unbelievable. Vermeulen revelled in the conditions too, just up his street and made numerous turnovers, although have to be said that a few were rather dubious.
Our game plan, especially in the first half, was rather stupid to be blunt. We tried to play too much rugby when conditions should have dictated that we keep the ball tight. Anyway, I’m confident that if we meet Wee Pee again in the final, we can take them. It’s a 50/50 call…maybe slightly in their favour with the home ground advantage!
@Villie (Comment 14) : really pleased to read that, Villie. Good to get a reasoned, positive assessment of a game I didn’t see…. plenty are going overboard
@Zibbie (Comment 1) : Can someone please explain this to me:
Let’s say the Sharks top the table 😈 and WP, Lions and Cheetahs all finish tied on log points in second place. What happens if WP have a positive PD over Lions, Lions have a positive PD over Cheetahs, and Cheetahs have a positive PD over WP.
How the hell do they decide table positions in that situation?
I must be missing something because surely that system is flawed 😕
@SeanyJMc (Comment 16) : in that case, it will move down to best overall points difference. I think.
@SeanyJMc (Comment 16) : I guess in that case, they would then look at overall points difference rather than points difference against each specific team.
@Villie (Comment 18) : what this guy just said
@robdylan (Comment 19) : yeah didn’t see your comment as I hadn’t refreshed my page before I posted
WELCOME BACK, ROB
@[email protected] (Comment 21) : well thanks
