It’s been confirmed today that the Sharks will play Saracens in a pre-season fixture at Allianz Park in London on 25 January next year.

Due to the news of Nelson Mandela’s passing, the Sharks have released no information about the fixture, save to confirm the it is indeed taking place. More details will be released in the coming week.

You can, however, find some details on the Saracens website.

More to follow on this next week.

  • Warm-up game in the middle of English winter?!?! More like cool break from Durban heat. Great way to expand the brand.

  • Should be a great game. Currie cup champions vs the Premiership leaders. I don’t think either side will hold back in a game that will reward the victor with serious bragging rights.

  • Oh baby! I never thought the Sharks would come back to Europe. I went to the Crusaders game in 2011, and will definitely go to this one!

  • John Smit amazes me everyday. Great outing and exposure for the boys. Both teams won’t hold back. Should be a cracker.

  • Stormers played Wasps in 2005 in the UK, so hardly anything new.

Nothing more than a marketing gimmick.

Would be surprised if Saracens put out anywhere near a full strength side.

Just a practice match where you have to pay to watch. 🙄

  • To be honest its just a money making thing. Jwhite isn’t gonna learn anything there. Nothing wrong with making money, just feel sry for the players, probably the last thing they feel like doing. [More traveling]

  • @McLovin (Comment 17) : actually there was a time when the Sharks used to make an annual trip to the UK to play a warm up game before the S12. Sharks have done this many times before, John Smit probably played in a couple of them at the start of his Sharks career, so as you say, nothing new. The Stormers copied the Sharks, same as their “men in black” thingy…

  • I’ll definitely try to make it over there for this match. It might be a problem as it’s my mums birthday!!! 😕

To those of you questioning what this match is for, it’s a warm up game, as a warm up (test the combos) kind of thing. Why is there confusion. Why Saracens? Probably because Smit wanted to bring in another piece of his past.

  • There’s no chance Sarries will be at full strength (disappointingly). They have a LV Cup match against Newcastle the following day.
