The latest Kings player to leave the Eastern Cape to join a Super Rugby franchise appears to be utility back Scott van Breda, according to a report by Stephen Nell in Beeld this morning.

The 22-year-old van Breda, who matriculated at Rondebosch in the Cape before moving to the Kings as an under 21, has apparently been summoned to join the Stormers and is expected to be named in their trimmed-down squad later today. Despite boasting just a single Super Rugby cap (14 minutes as a replacement for the Kings), Stormers coach Allister Coetzee is apparently interested in the player due to his size, something which is somewhat lacking in an outside back division boasting only Gio Aplon and Cheslin Kolbe as wing options.

Van Breda has represented the Kings in the Currie Cup First Division on 23 occasions, playing in every one of their 13 appearances last year.

  • Van Breda is also a good goal kicker……can also play fullback and center.
