Jóhann Thormählen, writing for Volksblad, this morning reveals that Cheetahs (and former Bok) flank Heinrich Brüssow will miss nearly half of this years’ Super Rugby campaign, thanks to an injury sustained while playing in Japan.
The nuggety flanker, who was a Bok stalwart under Peter de Villiers, but has found himself in the wilderness since Heyneke Meyer took over, apparently returned early from his Japanese stint with Docomo Red Hurricanes in order undergo an operation to repair damaged toe ligaments. He is expected to sit out for three months or so, meaning he misses the first six games of the campaign, including the Australasian tour.
Boom Prinsloo, who deputised with distinction for Brüssow during last year’s competition (when the latter was recovering from knee surgery) thus looks set to begin another campaign in the number 6 jersey.

Not nice for the tahs! He’s a good fetcher, defense and ball carries not that great though. Boom wasn’t bad. They also got j cook from bulls now. They will bulk up the tahs scrum, but he will be miss.
He didn’t leave for Japan in anywhere near good form, but this injury is still a big loss.
@KingsArmy (Comment 1) : Not the best defender 😆 Heyneke is never wrong is he??? 😆
Would love to have the stats of how many games Brussouw has played versus how many he has been injured over the last 3 years.
@Talent (Comment 3) : yip! Coetzee, kolisi ,and fourie ahead of him in the Q
@Talent (Comment 3) : With flo starting off course..
How many games vs the All Blacks has Brussow played and how many of those have we won, just out of curiosity ?
Big mistake by Meyer leaving Brussouw out – stupidity in fact
@KingsArmy (Comment 5) : Coetzee is not a 6
Flouw is a good player, but I’m not sure he has the speed flankers like Hooper, Cane and Mcaw have. He’ll struggle to get to that 13/15 channel before players mentioned above. Defensively this causes problems…
Flow did great so far…..the two cards he got at the EOYT did suck though. Coetzee was a bit quite last year, but show at the EOYT that he can be the guy to replace flow if injured in 2015.
With flow, coetzee and kolisi……think HM has got it spot on!
@Talent (Comment 10) : Flouw at 113kg is hardly built for speed. He is not a fetcher, we dont have one in the Bok starting side. Flouw would make a better 7 or 8
He is not the best 6 in SA…….Brussouw, Kolisi and Fourie are better
@Saffex (Comment 13) : I agree with you there.
I’m curious as to how 6.Kolisi 7.Botha would do. However, for the time being there aren’t many who could take Alberts out that 7 jersey.
I would also be interested in how far flankers travel between tackles compared with their tackle per minute count. Ideally you want a flank who can cover ground while keeping his tackle count up.
Becoming a bit of a sicknote, this lad
@Talent (Comment 14) : Big fan of Arno Botha, I’d play him ahead of Alberts and Kolisi at 6 is a good call
@Saffex (Comment 16) : you’d play Arno Botha ahead of Alberts 🙂
Oh ok General, would you prefer that I bow down and hold hands with you lot?
Lets have a look……..the Sarries side to play the Sharks will NOT be without their 8 England players and damn, I was wrong……Louw IS a perfect fetcher…..its bloody brilliant that the Bulls ARE bringing back 36 year old Matfield……..is that better sir??????
@robdylan (Comment 17) : Yes, he is a far better allround player. Alberts its good but Botha is better
@Saffex (Comment 19) : Botha is still a pipsqueek. 😆
@Talent (Comment 20) : Nothing wrong with that
Also A Botha fan…..,but Alberts is best 7 in the world at the moment[from a bulls fan]
@Saffex (Comment 18) : I’m glad you’re learning at last
Apart from not being a twat, i reckon things would work out so much better fro Saffex if he just added “in my opinion” to his posts from time to time.
And learnt how to play nice with the other children of course.
@VinChainSaw (Comment 24) : you coming to the game?
@robdylan (Comment 25) :
Leaning that way – just need to find somebody to accompany me that hasnt already got tickets.
@VinChainSaw (Comment 24) : Piss off, who pulled your chain?
