This isn’t really big, or surprising news, but probably worth a mention. Jean de Villiers has been confirmed as Stormers captain for the 2014 Super Rugby season.

Coach Allister Coetzee made the announcement today, adding that Schalk Burger will operate as vice captain and presumably lead the team when de Villiers is rested (yeah, right!).

Coetzee told “Jean and Schalk are both top-class rugby players and leaders, who also happen to be very close friends – dating back to their school days. But, most importantly, Jean and Schalk understand the Stormers culture well. That’s important for us, as coaches; they believe in our philosophy and what we’re trying to achieve with this squad.”

  • @KingsArmy (Comment 2) : We will all hope, for Boks sakes! but….they wont. 😕 De Allende seems to be a good player, but for some bizarre reason i can’t stand him. 😉
