Coetzee blow for Sharks

Rugby365 have let the cat out of the bag, in revealing that Bok loose forward Marcell Coetzee will miss out on the Sharks European mini-tour, due to an elbow injury sustained in training.

Coetzee will not be on the plane with the rest of the team tonight, but will, apparently, be fit for selection for the second warm-up game, against the Lions on 7 February.

The Sharks have not named an official replacement to tour in Coetzee’s stead.

  • Wishing you a speedy recovery Marcell. Really a big blow for us as Marcell brings a lot of mobile aggression both on attack and defence. I’ve always been a fan of this guy.

  • Hope you get better real soon, Marcell. You are such an important cog in the wheel of the Sharks! I’m a real fan of this guy. He always gives his ‘all’.

  • Goning to be interesting when we see the loose trio on the team sheet. Any guessing of who wil start?

  • @Dunx (Comment 4) : If Coetzee is not replaced, I would like to see Deysel and Alberts start on the sides and give Keegan the first run at 8 to show us in what kind of form he is in after losing the captaincy. Mtembu can come on the second half and Daniel can then have a run at 6 as well.

  • Would not mind seeing Deysel and Alberts on the flanks with Mtembu at the back. Keegan should be quite effective with 30 minutes to play.

  • @robdylan (Comment 8) : He has been struggling for a year now. Would feel better with the old workhorse Jacques Botes around.

  • @Culling Song (Comment 11) : well, mostly the former.

Sharks haven’t said anything, but I don’t think he made it onto the plane either.

  • Just saw on sarugby that Marcell and Pat have been awarded Springbok contracts.
Other new players to get contracts include Willie, Coenie, JJ, Frans Hougaard and Flip. JPP also apparently has signed a national contract for 2015.
