Tiaan Liebenberg leads a young Stormers side against Boland in this weekend’s final friendly, ahead of the team’s Super Rugby opener at Ellis Park on 22 February.

Coach Alister Coetzee has opted to keep most of his seniors back for this match, with Pat Cilliers, Jaco Taute and Gary van Aswegen joining Liebenberg as the only likely Super Rugby regulars in a very young squad.

Coetzee told “As stated before, my intention was always to ensure a decent amount of game time ahead of the start of the Vodacom Super Rugby season – you can see with our selections this week that we’re giving everyone an opportunity.”

Keep an eye out for young EW Viljoen, the Grey College and SA Schools fullback who has just joined WP this season. He starts on the right wing.

  • So Alister chose to go with the Sharks Captain/VC formula for this game.

Once an assistant to Jake, always an assistant to Jake. 😆
