Jake White has revealed that the Sharks are in an incredibly good state, injury-wise, ahead of this year’s Super Rugby tournament.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, White confirmed that of the group of 39 players named in the official squad, only Tyler Fisher – who hurt his shoulder against Saracens – is not currently fit for selection. Keegan Daniel, who is also battling a little with a shoulder complaint, is touch and go but could probably be picked to face the Bulls this weekend if required.
Given the depth available at loose forward, however, it’s unlikely that White would take a risk with any player who isn’t 100%, meaning Daniel will probably sit out against the team that has so often felt his sting late in the game.
We expect the Sharks match 23 for the Bulls game to be announced later today. The starting line-up is expected to exactly mirror the outfit that played against the Lions in Johannesburg last weekend, with the addition of Willem Alberts to the loose trio, possibly replacing Tera Mtembu at number 8.

Off the topic, there are some optimistic people out there regarding Superbru picks 😆
Excellent lets get this party started!
I wonder who will be 13? I have a feeling it will be S’bura. Looking fwd to seeing him go
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 3) : You think JW will throw him in the deep end against the bok centre?? 😈
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 3) : S’baru defence is yet to be properly tested. I’d venture he’ll be on the bench though and probably used in the second half.
Jordaan will start at 13, I’m sure. Hoping for a bench spot for S’bura though.
He’s a player whose time has come.
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 3) : Nah, it’ll be the same team he fielded against the Lions. Jake might talk excitedly off the field but he’s risk adverse on it.
@vanmartin (Comment 5) : S’baru make some amazing cars tho. 😛
@The Great Couch Shark (Comment 8) : And that is why I avoid his nickname like the plague, I know I never get it right but can’t be bothered to google it every time
@vanmartin (Comment 9) : Go with Sbu…. that works and is easy enough to remember and spell 🙂
@robdylan (Comment 10) : Much obliged 😀
@robdylan (Comment 10) : @vanmartin (Comment 11) : or hosepipe 😳 😆
@FireTheLooser (Comment 12) : ah yes… I’d forgotten about that one, actually.
I think Ive figured out Jake’s selection policy. “jy sal f*kken sterk wees, of jy sal f*kken vinnig wees”! No in betweens
@Talent (Comment 1) : Yes, and I am 1 of them 😀
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 14) : In enige ander geval sal jy Patrick Lambie wees
Why is the squad in today’s Mercury with photos different from the one announced here? Anyone got a clue?
@jzb0709 (Comment 17) : dunno, haven’t seen it
