While the rest of the country (or is that the world?) occupies themselves with crazy drinking challenges, the Cell C Sharks opted to rather follow the example set by a number of other big businesses and turn the “Nek Nomination” craze into an opportunity to do some good for the less fortunate.
They released the following video on YouTube, showing the Sharks squad in a 2-minute mad dash around a local Checkers store (lovable orphans from LIV in tow) to rack up as much produce as they could within that time limit.
The nett result? R12 000’s worth of groceries to be donated to the less fortunate. The Sharks have challenged the Bulls and the Stormers to follow suit, giving each of those teams one week in which to respond.

Well done guys. Makes me even prouder of you and even prouder (if that’s possible) to be a Shark.
Much better than the (red)nek nominations, which seems hell bent on proving darwins’ natural selection theory.
I suspect the bulls would have preferred a drinking challenge. π
But this is a pretty cool way of building some camaraderie and competition between the franchises outside the rugby field.
Well done Sharks and Co..
Wonderful initiative..
Good things happening at the Sharks at the moment, hell bent on creating a positive energy around the team and filling up the stadium..
Anybody here on CELL C get a message for the free rugby tickets? One great way to fill up the stadium!!
Good thing they didnt nominate the Lions…they would have to get the players to chip and to buy the stuff…
Absolutely brilliant! This is great stuff by the Sharks!
Great job Sharks and Checkers!! Looks like everyone had fun, and for a good cause too
Damn this is cool!
They couldnt nominate Lions or Cheetahs, that would bankrupt them π
Coolest thing since sliced bread π
great that we are about the people now
Only the aussies could have started something as daft as nek-nominations. They also invented planking, which doesn’t say much. I guess life is pretty tame there.
Cool
And that is why I support the Sharks, awesome team, culture, players and management!
Just happy I didn`t have to be the one to drag Frans Steyn away from the donut counter . . . π
@Original Pierre (Comment 14) : LOL π
