The Crusaders have revealed that All Black captain Richie McCaw will require surgery after sustaining a thumb fracture during Friday’s loss to the Blues in Auckland.
McCaw has what’s known as a Bennetts fracture and will undergo a procedure this week to insert a screw into the digit. He’s expected to be out of action for approximately eight weeks as a result.
Matt Todd is likely to deputise for McCaw at openside against the Stormers this weekend. The former champion Crusaders are winless after two games in this year’s Super Rugby competition.
