The Bulls have confirmed that Bok tourist Frik Kirsten is their third major injury casualty of the season, with the tighthead prop requiring neck surgery.

Kirsten sustained a disk injury during last week’s win over the Lions and will undergo a procedure later this month to correct the damage. The injury, though, is not thought be to career-threatening, which is good news.

The player is not expected to play any further rugby in 2014, meaning like Arno Botha (knee) and Pierre Spies (arm), he’ll miss the entire 2014 Super Rugby campaign.

We’d like to wish Frik all the best for the operation and his convalescence.

  • To lose a quality tighthead is a biggie for any team in this competition seeing as there aren’t that many good ones around.
    Good luck to him.

  • @John Galt (Comment 1) : yeah, I agree

I’d take that whole “this isn’t career threatening” bit with a pinch of salt too, since this is his second neck injury and he’s still only, what, 24?
