I keep refreshing my browser hoping for a different result. Or a correction of the horrible, horrible error that was made. Lambie isn’t really out for the entire season, is he? Not maybe just an early cruel April Fools joke, no?
I have faith in our backup. I really do. Zeilinga has impressed me. He looks the real deal and I’m glad he will see some Super Rugby game time this year. If Jake does not go that way, there are many other directions he could go that should be successful for the Sharks. Steyn at 10 with Heimar and Esterhuizen is one of those options. I do not think Swiel is half as bad as the team and the situation made him look against the Bulls. Actually, he just rather disappeared; he did not really look bad.
That is not my problem. I have faith in this team. I believe in the power of Black and White and whatever… I just feel gutted for Lambie. I really started seeing things fall into place for him. His face said everything, sitting on that bench. Rugby is a cruel game isn’t it? It was cruel to lose to the Bulls. Did I see a tear in Frans Steyn’s eye at the man of the match presentation? “As the Bulls hate losing to the Sharks, so the Sharks hate losing to the Bulls” he says. And like we’ve all done before – “If I slotted those two drop goals and didn’t miss that kick on the angle at the start of the game…” If only…. A cruel, cruel game.
There are 50 plus injured players already this year, more than 10 of them are out for the season with Lambie. Not to mention our very own Pieter-Steph du Toit. I’m starting to hate all these injuries. Has it always been this bad? And how badly does the amount of rugby that players are seeing these days influence these numbers if we are only 6 games into the season? Lambie played 3 games and 5 minutes before he picked up his season ending injury.
I suppose it’s time for the team to move on and look ahead. I’m excited for the team announcement, with a few of our young players now due to get an opportunity to prove that they are ready for this level. All teams have to go through adversity. That’s what makes the story even better when you lift the trophy in the end, right?
As for the guys missing out. As for Lambie. that’s rugby for you mate. You’ll be back in no time, maybe next season will be yours to shine.

Great article! Echoes many of my own sentiments too.
Good Article, Our sentiments go out to all players that are injured, especially our Shark superstars with long term injuries. The only conciliation is that they are still young and will be available to play for us for many years to come.
I hear a rumour that are also forwards on the injury list. Any news on that ?
We must unite behind our team ! Go Sharks !
Try being a stormers supporter and talk about injuries
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 3) : Thank you for adding the silver lining Claytie 😉
Although the Sharks had an injury nightmare during the last Super rugby season, if one looks at all the teams, it seems that this year is particularly bad.
If there is any truth in that, then one must ask why and if any playing demands, or conditioning regime is contributing to this?
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 3) : Please, which players of promise have you lost to injury….all your promising players left before wpru offered them contracts 😈
At least our fh situation is not as bad as 2010 – talk about NO forward planning at all.
Sharks banked all their chips on an unknown player in Steven Meyer, who ended up quitting before the first kick-off ever happened…and we had no backup (other than the one Cronje twin I think – so no backup)
@vanmartin (Comment 4) : 🙂
I’m sure Lambi was set to sement his place in green and gold this year, and that’s what hurts the most….
@FireTheLooser (Comment 7) : I remember that. Why did he quit before the season had even started?
@ChrisS (Comment 10) : Nobody knows
@Franshark (Comment 9) : Spot on
@ChrisS (Comment 10) : He cited personal reasons at the time – supposedly some lack of confidence due to the state of his knees.
@FireTheLooser (Comment 7) : And guess who I watched playing for Wasps while I ate my breakfast cereal this morning – yep, Andy Goode.
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 14) : Can’t believe the Skullet is still playing :shock:. Good for him!
Gutted for Pat! But I am quietly confident that Fred will do this thing!!
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 14) : Mr. Skullet himself – painful season that was…..was he any goode for the wasps?
I want us to keep Steyn at 12 and play Fred at 10. Fred is a natural flyhalf and has the brains for the position.
@GreatSharksays (Comment 18) : Agreed.
@vanmartin (Comment 15) : @vanmartin (Comment 15) : I only watched for about 10 minutes, in that time he nailed a penalty in horrible conditions and put a kick out on the full. Checking on the result has him slotting a last minute conversion to take the win 13-11 against Worcester. Seems we taught him well.
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 20) : I suspect the Sharks learnt a greater lesson from him 😉
@vanmartin (Comment 21) : 😆
SAD SAD news for Pat Lambie. Wish him and Cobus both a speedy recovery. Marnitz Boshoff from the lions deserves a call up to the bok camp in Pats absence. Playing some impressive rugby.
@sharksupport (Comment 23) : I suspect there’s little doubt he’ll get a look in now.
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 20) : didnt he spend some time at the stormers as well?
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 25) : Not that I can remember. Arent you thinking of Tony Brown maybe?
@Clayton(PJLD) (Comment 25) : @Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 26) : No, Andy never played for the Stormers. You would have remembered that 🙂
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 26) : Yeah you’re spot on it was Tony Brown I was thinking of
Sharks team for Saturday has been named and boy are there surprises. Rob when will you put it up will be nice to read the coments. 🙂
