  • @Poisy (Comment 13) : LOL yeah lots of permutations to keep in mind.

I remember an occasion last year, I think it was a Stormers match, where Fourie used to be a banker, where the first try was a Penalty try! That screws everything up!

    On a different note . . Where`s JP Pieterson? 👿

  • @Poisy (Comment 29) : When have we really looked good this year? I’m not talking about odd moments and individual efforts, but a fluent, structured game plan. Fact is that for all the talk about us having the fastest backline in the competition, they’ve done nothing creative with the ball.

  • @rhineshark (Comment 105) : I read earlier on the week how everybody was raving about the Sharks having the quickest backline in the tournament. They are unfortunately so one-dimensional, they can’t buy a try at the 5 Rand store. Sharks will have to learn how to score tries if they have any title aspirations. And get more dynamic loosies than Deysel!!

  • Ok so too much kicking was probably the main reason we played so shite today, but then so too was our 1 dimensional attack. Alberts and Bismark were nullified and Deysel battled manfully but we can’t keep relying on ‘battering-ram’ rugby. I thought Daniel was probably the one player to keep on the field today. Next week, we need to work on mixing up our attack or we risk being easily read by the opposition.

  • @Big Fish (Comment 156) : Still, catching and passing is catching and passing. It’s irrelevant whether you’ve ever dominated a competition or have to make do without a few first choice players.

I’m talking about basics. A prime example was near the end with the great run down the right touchline by Marais, from which we got very quick ruck ball with a massive overlap to the left. About 5 players managed to get bunched up in midfield and we got blown up for obstruction, when a simple draw and pass by each player would probably have led to a try.

  • @KingCheetah (Comment 147) : I didn’t watch the game, but I take it based on all the comments it was pretty rubbish. Obviously as a Sharks supporter I’m not too happy about that. But similar to my comments last week, a few thoughts in the interest of maintaining perspective:
    1) The tournament is not won in April. I am of the opinion that even in the tournament this year the Sharks have shown that if they are switched on few teams can stay with them. My greater concern is that they seem to be so inconsistently switched on. Then again, it is a LONG tournament and I’d rather they be a bit off colour now and be switched on in the playoffs than the other way around. The Sharks have done that often enough in the Currie Cup (e.g. How often in recent years have we lost to Griquas in the years we win the Currie Cup?).
    2. The above point is obviously only valid if they don’t lose so much on the way that they don’t make the playoffs or have an impossible playoff schedule. But so far they have just about won every game despite playing some crap mixed in between very good games. I’d rather be playing rubbish and sitting top of the log than playing rubbish and sitting bottom. Of course, I do hope that the rubbish doesn’t occur every game…but I don’t think it will. In general we’re always crap in the games we’re expected to win comfortably.
    3. With all due respect to Nick Mallet, I don’t think what he said there is.completely correct. The top New Zealand side (Chiefs) struggled to put away the bottom Aussie side (13th placed Rebels) just last week. In this tournament that is pretty standard…especially when the top sides have been hit with injuries to many key players (as is the case with both the Chiefs and the Sharks). The top Aussie team lost to the bottom Aussie team at the time (Brumbies v Force) a few weeks ago. If you take into account that the Cheetahs have been a bit of a bogey team for us in Durban, I’m just chuffed we won at all!
    4. You are of course right, when you say you hope that the Sharks show great improvement on tour. That is what I am waiting to see, because that will make or break the campaign. And yes, to do that, they definitely have some issues to address. I hope they address them and have a good tour…I hope that our depth is not tested further…and I hope that some of the new guys (Swiel, Lewies, etc.) step up to the plate on tour.
I guess we’ll see what the next few months bring. I am not happy with some of the crappy games we’ve played and there are more issues I’m concerned about then the ones mentioned in this long comment. But I am very chuffed with where we sit at this stage of the season…on top of the log with a 6 point cushion! 🙂

  • @JD (Comment 184) : I can imagine why you would disregard any negative criticism. Well it’s your choice I guess. Its a day to remember when Sharks supporters value Naas’ opinions over Mallet’s lol

  • @Big Fish (Comment 181) : In fact no difference at all. I know my team is below par. Your team is loaded with stars yet you defend a shyte performance! I also like Bismarck, and I respect your unbiased commentary in general. I was having a go at a few others on the site who had a lot of negative stuff to sprout about Strauss over the past few weeks. That is what I was referring to. Bismarck is a fine player, we just don’t lose anything when he can’t play, and the boks have to play Strauss. In fact I think the Sharks have great depth with Cooper, who I also rate highly.

  • @KingCheetah (Comment 187) :
Agree on rating both Strauss and Cooper. Sharks need to take better care of the latter.

And Bismark hasn’t been as good as usual this season, for the record.

  • Awful game. Glad we won but a really poor performance. What is with this terrible kicking game. Swiel should distribute more and run more he is very agile and should play to his strengths. I was hoping he would run more. This type of game will NOT cut it overseas. Wake up sharks. SP back to 15 steyn to 10 williams to 12.

  • @KingCheetah (Comment 187) : Having been at the game I am confident to say that Struass did nothing to change my mind. 19 mins in and the game was stopped because him and other forwards were off their feet. He spent th whole game in the backline, scrummed and hooked horribly and was in all very inactive. In the end the even the great Brussow wasn’t able to win the game for you. The score line would have been bigger if it wasn’t for missed kicks. But Im happy with the 4 points, you feel the same at the bottom of the table?

  • @Seth101 (Comment 191) : You can delight in the Cheetahs loss, and delude yourself that by virtue of the Cheetahs log position you can feel so cock a hoop. It is actually a testimony to how poor the Sharks are playing. Its common cause that they are horribly out of form, yet the Sharks huffed and puffed to put them away. Gloat all you like, but I can tell you now, the Sharks aren’t making any overseas side lose any sleep on this showing. As for Strauss, at least he was hanging around in his own backline, Bismarck was hanging around in the Cheetahs backline. I know the Cheetahs are poor at the moment, but heck, even they and heaven forbid the Stormers have more attacking intent than the sharks at the moment.

  • @KingCheetah (Comment 192) : Funny how a team with such bad attack has the highest points difference in the tournament :/. But I guess being a Cheetahs supporter you wouldn’t know anything about the goings on at the top of the log. I will take a win over a lose, and I will definitely take top of the log over the bottom. Chiefs lost at home, Sharks have yet to lose a single game at home… Home games give just as many points as away games, but again points are not something you would know much about.

  • @Seth101 (Comment 193) : So would I take a win, and by all means lose sight of the real issues, be my guest. Paper over the cracks all your like. I am not sure what is worse. Knowing your team is playing shit, and have shot their bolt, or having a team like the Sharks, with the best talent available in years only to seem them fall short AGAIN and AGAIN. Fact is the gulf in class between the players the Cheetahs have available vs. that of the Sharks, its really incredible that we lost by such a small margin, and the Sharks never looked like putting the Cheetahs away, or the Lions for that matter. So what is worse? Having a team with so much to offer, only to see this tripe? Sharks may have the points difference, but they aren’t setting the world on fire, and if that is your pacifier. Good luck.

  • @KingCheetah (Comment 196) : That is the beats of local derbies. Just like the Force beating the Tahs or Saders beating the Chiefs, both lower on the table, both surprise wins, both at home for the stronger team, only difference is that the Sharks have won all of those hard derby games.

  • @Seth101 (Comment 197) : Hope you are right and that we are yet to see the best of the Sharks. Maybe I have just seen this all too often from the Sharks. They have so much talent and then they blow hot and cold. 2012 was the same. Hope I am wrong!

  • @KingCheetah (Comment 186) : boet it’s not that I don’t take criticism seriously it’s just that it was one hell of a battle between two SA teams. All I was hoping for today was a Sharks victory a d that’s what they did. As for Naas vs Nick I’d always go with Naas, he’s got an astute rugby brain and is not nearly as bias as Nick, he give criticism but also praise where it’s due.

  • @KingCheetah (Comment 198) : at least they blow hot sometimes. There’s still lots to do before the trophy is lifted and yes the Sharks must start producing beter results, but in saying that they also played well enough to be 6 points clear on the combined log and 11 on the SA log and taking how poor they were at times I’ll take it any day.

  • @JD (Comment 200) : They are six points clear, but what is that saying? The other SA teams are so shyte right now, that we are by far the weakest conference. Being 6 points clear is good, but the Sharks have to tour now, and this year in particular, wins on the road have been few and far between. I really hope the Sharks can turn it on, because the rest of our teams are way off the pace!!

  • @KingCheetah (Comment 201) : that’s true SA teams been weak especially on tour. Really hoping Sharks can do better. They must target Rebels and Blues as games they must win. Sharks need to come home after the tour with at least 9 to 10 points.

  • @KingCheetah (Comment 131) : consider these facts : only 3 2014 backline starters in the game with one out of position. 3 players in their first game for sharks in s15.
