Deon Kayser has named a strong Cell C Sharks XV to take on the EP Kings in the last regular season Vodacom Cup match, to be played at Growthpoint Kings Park tomorrow afternoon. Hooker Monde Hadebe returns to the starting lineup this week, also reclaiming the captaincy from lock Edwin Hewitt.

Hadebe takes over from Franco Marais, who will play off the bench this week, while another swap sees Junior Springbok Thomas du Toit start at looshead prop ahead of Mox Mxoli. The latter drops out of the squad, with Khwezi Mona providing front row cover this week. The second row combination of Hewitt and Nikolai Blignaut is unchanged, but a switch on the bench sees Marco Wentzel in for Peet Marais this week.

The loose forward contingent of Khaya Majola, Justin Downey and Johan Meyer (with Franna Kleinhans in reserve) also remain intact from the win over the Tusker Simba XV a fortnight ago.

Another Junior Bok, flyhalf Jean-Luc du Plessis, earns his first start at this level, after playing off the bench against the Kenyans. He replaces Tim Swiel, who is on duty with the senior side. Andre Esterhuizen returns at inside center to partner Quentin Crocker, with Neil Maritz moving to the bench. The final change sees Alcino Izaacs promoted into the starting team, where he replaces Tonderai Chavanga at wing.

Youngster Sandile Khubeka, unlucky not to make Dawie Theron’s final squad, comes back into the 22 this week as well.

The currently unbeaten Sharks XV need only two points form this match to be assured of a first place finish in the Vodacom Cup South Section.

  • Hmm interesting the dropping of Peet Marais…wonder if its an attitude or performance thing. This will be a tough test of this side.

  • @robdylan (Comment 7) : sorry to hear about Marco but glad if Peet gets the game time. I’m worried that Sharks are going to lose Peet just like his brother.

  • @robdylan (Comment 7) : Funny how unenforced rotation works. I mean if Peet’s brother had stuck around for another 6 months he would have been the Sharks no.1 lock now playing every week and good performances could have seen him in the Bok larger training squad. But now he is hiding somewhere in France. But I supposed financially he is fine.

  • I really like how Peet plays but i would rather he go to a local union like the Lions after losing Franco as he would add value and might be a future Springbok, cant affor to loose another Marais to the euro

Hoping Peet might stick around until Currie Cup… if for no other reason than to keep an eye on baby brother

    Where is JJR nowadays?

I would have thought that he would be ecstatic that Jordaan is back and BOTH Alberts and Deysel are starting.

  • The treatment of Peet Marais is pathetic, he should be in the S15 squad, let alone not making the Vodacom Cup 23 – no doubt he will be following his brother to France shortly and who could blame him – pathetic player management and investment
