Toyota Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske has not hesitated to include fit-again Springboks Coenie Oosthuizen and Johan Goosen in his side to face the Western Force in Bloemfontein this weekend. Both proved their fitness in playing off the bench against the Bulls last week.

Oosthuizen replaces Maks van Dyk at tighthead, with the Junior Bok prop dropping to the bench, while Goosen dons his favoured number 10 jersey at the expense of the benched Elgar Watts.

A further change to the starting team sees utility forward Teboho Mahoje come in for his first start, at blindside flank where he replaces the injured Jean Cook.

Raymond Rhule is an injury doubt and has been bracketed with Cornal Hendricks at right wing. Should the former fail to recover from his ankle knock, former Sharks age-group centre Howard Mnisi will come onto the bench.

Toyota Cheetahs: 15 Hennie Daniller, 14 Raymond Rhule/Cornal Hendricks, 13 Johann Sadie, 12 Rayno Benjamin, 11 Willie le Roux, 10 Johan Goosen, 9 Sarel Pretorius 8 Johannes Prinsloo, 7 Teboho Mohoje, 6 Heinrich Brussow, 5 Francois Uys, 4 Andries Ferreira, 3 Coenie Oosthuizen, 2 Adriaan Strauss (captain), 1 Caylib Oosthuizen.
Replacements: 16 Torsten van Jaarsveld, 17 Trevor Nyakane, 18 Nicolaas van Dyk, 19 Carel Greeff, 20 Waltie Vermeulen, 21 Shaun Venter, 22 Elgar Watts, 23 Cornal Hendricks/Howard Mnisi.

  • Coenie is not a tighthead. That’s why he keeps on injuring his neck. Leave him at loosehead where he’s good.

  • @robdylan (Comment 2) : Cheetahs really needs a Sharks type overhauling.

  • @JD (Comment 3) : Hmmmm not so sure about that! What will the overhaul entail. Please just not Jake White, rather leave Naka. Brendan Venter yes. If you can find a way to increase the population of the Cheetahs feeder support base, I am in, because if you can’t change that, then little else will benefit the Cheethas.

The way the Sharks players are dropping like flies, doesn’t say much about the newfound professionalism that the JS/White combo have brought. The style of rugby even less so for us Cheetah fans. We need a few more star quality players.

Another lock in the Lood mould, two 5 locks and we are sorted.

Naka is airway working on expanding the talent base for FS.

All those “away” games he plays while his mates are away from their homes and wives…

  • @KingCheetah (Comment 4) : so you’re telling me you are completely satisfied with the Cheetahs?!?!?! What I meant with a Sharks style makeover is not JS and JW, but renewing all your structures from the boardroom to the coaching staff just to get a fresh approach.

  • @JD (Comment 9) : Lol I know that’s what you meant. My question is how to solve our problem of increasing the available supporter base. You can revamp everything in the Cheetahs setup, it will matter little, because our source of revenue for supporters attending matches will never compare to that of the Sharks, Bulls, Lions and Stormers. All thse franchises have in excess of 3 million people that could be tapped into. The Cheetahs will be lucky to get 1 million. How are we going to revamp that!

Not a matter of being satisfied. How are we going to change the real issues, if we can substantially increase our revenue. We are talking tripling our income, to enable us to compete on an even footing.

  • @KingCheetah (Comment 10) : must start somewhere. If you can’t find more money it’s all the more important to spend what you do have wisely. Management needs to be business wise and Naka & co is not going to take Cheetahs to any trophies. Changes takes time to show results.

  • @Big Fish (Comment 11) : [email protected]JD (Comment 12) : You can put the best coach in the world there bud, you still sit with the same problem that Naka and the administrators in the Cheetahs setup have, MONEY!!

I had this discussion with Fire the Looser too. To retain the players like Coenie, Strauss, Goosen and Brussow, it effectively means the Cheetahs can contract 6 – 10 less quality players. If your player budget is as small as the Cheetahs no coach in the world will win the S15, or compete consistently. Naka doesn’t run the Cheetahs Business. Harold Verster is the business arm head honcho. I agree, there is much to improve on, my question remains, how can we improve the Cheetahs revenue to the degree that they can compete. Till then it will remain a vicious circle!

The Sharks had a foundation to work off and then improvements deliver significant results.

If I send you to Bloem, but I give you a map of Cape Town, you can be as professional, and industrious as you want, you are still going to get lost, just quicker!

  • @KingCheetah (Comment 13) : by keeping everything the same your income will decrease even more. Only thing to do is change. Work what you have and stop complaining what you don’t have. By always moaning about the lack of money you will not get R1 more but by using the money that you have wiser you could make a difference, by using Griquas to help strengthening your squad, etc. Thinking about limitations will only limit you thinking about solution will help. What about doing deals for players to go and play in Japan like Kanko, JPP, etc. The game has changed and the administrators and coaches needs to change as well.
