Sharks lock Daniel du Preez has been ruled out of the upcoming IRB Junior World Championship due to a shoulder injury.

The SA Schools star, who is the son of former Bok scrumhalf Robert, was expected to play a big role in the Junior Springbok challenge in New Zealand next month, but will now be forced to watch from the sidelines as his teammates – including twin brother Jean-Luc – attempt to reclaim the title last won at home in 2012.

Western Province utility forward Jacques Vermeulen has replaced du Preez in the squad, with the latter perhaps still in with a chance of joining the team as an injury replacement later in the tour, if required.
