A quick one to confirm that Cell C Sharks centre Paul Jordaan has been called up to join the Springbok squad, after both Frans Steyn and Juan de Jongh have been withdrawn for various reasons.

Jordaan’s great form during the Sharks’ tour – where he was particularly effective on defence against some tough Kiwi opposition, has earned him the nod.

In less inspiring news, Wynand Olivier has also received a call-up.

  • Great news for Paul Jordaan! Richly dererved, after a fantastic super rugby season so far!

@Caratacus (Comment 2) : Doubt either will get a shot this tour unless injuries come into play, however great for both to be on the radar and in the camp.

  • So I guess it means Pieter Muller was not prepared to come out of retirement then?

Anyway great news that Paul has been rewarded – even though it is very unlikely that he will actually even make the bench.

  • At least he did pick Paul. Chances are he called up JFourie first, but he’s not playing international rugby anymore and couldn’t be persuaded.

Heyneke is very much a coach that looks at current players rather than new players.

Although he has given a few players deserving first caps as well.

I’m not in a combative mood. That doesn’t work for blogging. You can’t just be pleased with what the Bok coach does. Anyway, I’ve started caring less a while ago. I just want our Sharkies to come home in one piece and ready to win the last 6/5 games!

    Well done Paul.

Rather Pienaar. Hougie has been in reasonable form.

I would actually not have minded if Kockett was given a shot. Although, that would ruin his French eligibility.

  • @Letgo (Comment 21) : Once the Bulls allowed Hougaard to play his own game (and not try and be an FdP clone) he has been fairly good recently.

  • I know exactly what happened. Jake White selected his 2007 World Cup Team. Meyer who used to walk around Loftus dreaming of his bok team he was going to choose when he was coach in 2008 fell of his chair when he heard the team announcement. The SAME TEAM!!! THE ONE HE HAS PICTURES OF IN HIS ROOM.

2014 and Meyer gets his chance to select his dream team. Lets see how many 2007 players we can put down

    1. Gurthro
    2. Bismarck
    3. Jannie
    4. Bakkies
    5. Victor
    6. Schalk
    7. Juan Smith (you know its going to happen
    8. Spies ( you definitely know its going to happen)
    9. FdP
    10. Frans Steyn (comes back – just to make Meyers old schools)
    11 Habana
12 Jdv (Will get dropped for Meisie Kind)
    13 J Fourie
    14 JP
15 Ruan Pienaar ( Just because)

Wala! we have a very probable team of Springboks all who played in the 2007 World Cup

You never know. It may happen!

  • @Mocho (Comment 23) : percy can be called out of retirement as well you know… Its really scary to see that 7 years and nearly two world cups later the HM still field the same squad that won the world cup nearly a decade ago… Its like there’s been no new additions to this team since lol

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 29) : imagine he didn’t decline…. Imagine its true that HM asked him and he actually said yes… Who would have been dropped?

  • Comment 30, posted at 13.06.14 18:09:36 by Stiko85 Reply

  • Omw I just read an article stating that HM really asked him but he said he’s not ready yet but will be ready for the four RC, hmm as fantastic as he was in the toulon final, why is HM intend on picking the old guys above the new ones. After the world cup the new coach will have to rebuild from scratch as all those guys will be retiring at once due to old age.

  • Comment 31, posted at 13.06.14 18:16:18 by Stiko85 Reply

  • Meyer is farking up our domestic rugby stocks!!

Heard rumors of more young players leaving. What happens after the world cup when the likes of Goosen et al have 3 year contracts with foreign clubs and a new coach decides (if he has the balls)to say he is only going to pick local based players? Will we have adequate depth to do that?

One thing Im sure of is the next coach is going to have to undo Meyers legacy. All this so his mates can earn top dollar and still be picked.

  • @Stiko85 (Comment 31) : @Talent (Comment 32) : picking all these old players makes no sense. Is he really thinking that they can win the World cup next year?!?!?!?! Fuck it feels as if we’re going backwards by only picking players that already played for the Bokke no new players allowed! !!!!

  • @Talent (Comment 32) : Seems HM had a blueprint all figured-out and ready to implement. for when he took over from JW after wc ’07.

Seems he is using that exact blueprint, including players and everything….He’s so stuck in his ways, I won’t be surprised if he still uses VHS when doing video sessions 😈

  • Comment 34, posted at 14.06.14 07:27:12 by FireTheLooser Reply

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 34) : ya nee buddy, this does look like a teamsheet that should have been played in 08. We get that he was suppose to be the designated man to take over from JW (and then came stemmetjie/snor to steel his position due to politics), but he had four years to recover from that “devastation” of not being picked, he should have revised his “blueprint” updating according to the new players coming in. Jeez its like he’s tryna prove to everyone that he should have been the coach in 08 already.. Screw that. Get with the times. While he’s picking all these old man the new (exciting) men are getting swooped up by other countries. Won’t be surprised if in a few years time burden and co runs out for france and other countries eish.

  • Comment 35, posted at 14.06.14 07:45:19 by Stiko85 Reply

  • @Stiko85 (Comment 31) : That list of Mocho sheds some serious light on how little we’ve moved forward since JW coached the Boks.

Apparently Mallet made the smart-alec comment that HM laid the ground-work for wc ’07. Mallet has a serious issue with JW, probably why he nearly chokes when he has to say something positive about the Sharks. 🙄

@Stiko85 (Comment 35) : I’m hoping Dawie Theron will ultimately become Bok coach, just because he will have the ability to pick in-form players, and can’t rely on players of year gone by.
