According to an article in Volksblad, Heinrich Brüssow will not be in action for the cheetahs against the Sharks this weekend.
The out-of-favour Bok fetcher has a groin injury which will keep him out of the match – the news for Boks Johan Goosen and Coenie Oosthuizen is better, though. Both sustained knee injuries during the Test season, but have been cleared to play this weekend.
Coach Naka Drotske will be scratching his head when it comes to selecting the back row, though, with both Boom Prinsloo and Lappies Labuschagne unavailable in addition to Brüssow. Jean Cook and Philip van der Walt are expected to come back into the picture, along with new Bok Oupa Mohoje, but according to Jóhann Thormählen‘s article, Cook is unlikely to start, meaning a potential maiden cap for young Henco Venter at flank.
There’s also a possibility that Griffons prop Kevin Stevens could make an appearance, after Maks van Dyk and the other Griquas players have been withdrawn from the Cheetahs squad.

sorry to say Marcel to eat them alive and not even spit out the bones
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 1) : LOL… good one, but I really do hope the saaaks come out firing like they did for the boks…
I foresee confussion:
Henco Venter – Flank – Cheetahs
Hanco Venter – Scrumhalf – Sharks
I am so glad that the Sharks don’t have Goosen in our squad,this guy is a drama queen of note,ever since he was bust for roids as a school boy he has been controversial .
Yet he is touted as the golden boy and given chance after chance,I think most of his injuries happen in his head.You can have all the talent in the world but if you don’t have the confidence to exploit it it is useless.When you contrast Goosen with Lambie or Pollard there is no contest.Both of them took their opportunity and excelled,unlike this over hyped prima donna.
@The hound (Comment 4) : yip
@R Hayward (Comment 2) : They will. I dont know why everyone is worried. We made it all this way without our 2 flyhalves and 2 locks. Three of them are back now and Steyn is rested. Relax guys, we’re winning this. In Durban or in Sydney
I am just looking forward to the Lambie/Goosen tussle. Will be great to see Pat on the field again. Just had about enough of everyone worshiping Pollard like he is the be all and end all of all fly-halves ever. Enough already! 😡
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 6) : and before that in Bloem and Newlands.
We have a wealth of riches at our disposal,having to find a starting place for Frans Steyn is probably our biggest worry.
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 6) : Yes man! 😛 Sweet to my ear!
@Another Nick (Comment 7) : Pollard delivered the goods in the junior W/C and when he was prematurely shoved in against the Scots club side.
He has the complete game,and I stand to be shouted down here, but I see a lot of Lem in him.
Playing with Fourie du Preez helped him on Saturday,and he doidn’t look that good when Houghaard arrived.
now does Bressler walk back into the team,or does Jake stay with his boy Oosthuizen who played so well in that win over the Blues,and its time to look at Esterhuizen in the 12 jersey he was massive in the Junior cup,and he is not going to hang around waiting for an opportunity
@The hound (Comment 10) : Look, the guy has talent. There is no denying that. But the way the media and rugby blogs blow him up, you should think he is Carter, Wilkinson, Larkham and even ou Naas all in one!
@The hound (Comment 10) : I also like him, but I also feel he must not be judged on that first test. I dont think that Scotland side would reach the Currie cup semi finals
@Another Nick (Comment 12) : I agree with you, he is
De La Ray riding in on a white horse to rescue the Volk from the shame of having to rely on Lambie .
But rather him than Glas Goosen or Shit Steyn.
@The hound (Comment 14) : careful.
Just hope that the Sharks don’t grow complacent based on news of Cheetahs injuries. We need to come out firing in Bloem, build confidence from a good performance and ride that momentum into the Stormers game.
@robdylan (Comment 15) : 😆 😆 Whenever you think Rob isn’t around just gooi one of those comments and you’ll realise he’s omnipresent.
@Pokkel (Comment 17) : I am actually a bot
@vanmartin (Comment 16) : I think all thoughts of complacency packed up and left on the same flight as the Stormers 5 weeks ago
@robdylan (Comment 15) : Apologies for whatever it was that caused the offence?
Still very green about the rules here.
@robdylan (Comment 18) : Do you dream of electric sheep?
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 19) : I would certainly hope so. The resting of some players should also go a long way in addressing that.
@robdylan (Comment 18) : Quite a well programmed one it would seem.
Rob, how much truth do you believe is in the rumour that Adriaan Strauss is heading back to the Bulls?
‘… after Maks van Dyk and the other Griquas
players have been withdrawn from the Cheetahs squad.’ Did I miss something? Why no Griquas?
@ Ossa Griquas have withdrawn their players as they have started their Currie cup challenge, in whichever league they are playing, hopefully I will understand it all by the time our turn to start comes. 😳
@Ossa (Comment 24) : @Sharksmad – The Blog’s Dudette (Comment 25) : I presume that if the Cheetahs were in with a sniff of making the playoffs then the Griqua players would still have turned out for the Cheetahs. At the moment all Griquas energies will be in securing a CC berth.
@Another Nick (Comment 23) : 100% truth
@Another Nick (Comment 23) : Looks like they need him for their u13 Craven week team.
On a serious note, I wonder if anyone will be left in the Bloem franchise at this rate.
@robdylan (Comment 27) : shit!!
Seems Fury is also gone for the rest of the season and will miss the RC.
Now we’ll see how HM’s OBP policy comes back to bite him on the ass.
@VinChainSaw (Comment 30) : well he still has one obp or rather obc in Pienaar
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 28) : Naka…
@Another Nick (Comment 23) : any other rumours flying around? Lappies to sharks?
@VinChainSaw (Comment 30) : We do have a problem at scrumhalf in SA. Behind Fourie, neither of the experienced scrumhalves in the pecking order (Pienaar and Hougaard) are world class, and behind them is a bunch of greenhorns. Kockett can’t be capped as a Bok – as per Morne’s explanation.
@robdylan (Comment 27) : Thanks Rob. Not a bad buy by any means. @West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 33) : Lol, I wish! Would not mind seeing him in a Sharks jersey..
With all these players leaving, how are the Cheetahs managing to hang on to le Roux?
@vanmartin (Comment 36) : Must have a pretty solid contract there I guess…
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 33) : Lappies to Sharks… seems to have legs that one
@robdylan (Comment 27) : Excellent news. Biggest eye sore in the Bulls setup is the absence of a proper hooker. One that can find his jumpers – regularly and be a handful around the park, is great news. Plus he can captain when Vic retires…again.
@Blue Centurion (Comment 39) : Any insight into why the Bulls let him go in the first place?
@robdylan (Comment 38) : ooooh. me likes 🙂
@robdylan (Comment 38) : Wow ok! Nice!
@Blue Centurion (Comment 39) : You gotta be a pretty ave hooker if you cant execute the standard “throw it to matfield” lineout call
@Another Nick (Comment 42) : Would def soften the Deysel blow
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 44) : Plus I love when we sign Cheetahs 😈 Crybabies gonna cry
@vanmartin (Comment 40) : Other than he wanted to go back “home”, I don’t know.
@Blue Centurion (Comment 46) : Thanks!
@vanmartin (Comment 40) : Gary Botha and ,Chilliboy,
One was the golden boy of Blue bulls rugby and the other the Golden boy of S.A.R.U.
@SheldonK (Comment 43) : That was my argument as well. Even if he misses Matfield, Flip isn’t a bad jumper either. But missing them both and then some…
@The hound (Comment 48) : Chilliboy back then was a walking sicknote. Played one game, out for whole season, etc.
@The hound (Comment 48) : and they also had the other Derick thet shifted from flank.
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 44) : you said it brother!!!!
@robdylan (Comment 38) : you saying it’s a possibility?!?! That would be great! !
Well, this article and threat is filled with good news!! Come on men…you can do it!
@pastorshark (Comment 54) : Did you watch the Germany /Algeria game. If so what did you think of it?
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 55) : not really a great game for Germany. Don’t know if they will make it past France and then Brazil but I still can hope.
