The Cell C Sharks under 19 and under 21 sides will be in action at Woodburn Stadium in Pietermaritzburg this afternoon, seeking victories over their Lions counterparts to get both campaigns back on track.

It’s been a pretty grim fortnight for junior rugby in the province, with both age group sides suffering heavy losses against the Blue Bulls and Western Province in recent weeks.

In a rather interesting move, former Grey College captain Marius Louw has been moved from flank to outside centre for the under 19 side, allowing the du Preez twins to operate in tandem at flank.  The game kicks off at 15h15.

  • Compare the quality in players in both the u19s and u21s against the Bulls, Lions, Cheetahs and WP you can understand why we will struggle this season. The Sharks need to pull their finger on the recruitment side.

  • @RuckingFun (Comment 31) : It would make sense that there would be similarities in approaches, a common template if you will. I’d expect to see similar lineout calls and defensive structures at the very least

  • @slammerboy (Comment 32) : Maybe the rumours about us being broke are true. Explains a lot of things….I.e. Lappies choosing to be the 4th open side flanker after Arno, JDP, Engelbrecht as opposed to being the 2nd open side flanker at the Sharks.

  • What a Final!! The Crusaders and Waratahs are showing us how it’s done!!

Crazy Bear is having a good game with the whistle! He’s definitely the number one ref in the world at the moment!

  • So…..The kiwis boast three SR wining teams

the Ozzies now boast with three SR winning teams

And SA once again, faaaaaaaaar behind, with merely a singular SR winning team.

Something is seriously wrong with that.

Congrats Tahs though, they showed that being preseason favorites does not give you the right to choke, nor does it give you the right to not play any rugby….they ran and ran and ran, hardly ever kicking.

  • Comment 36, posted at 02.08.14 13:24:49 by FireTheLooser Reply
  • Well done to the Tahs. They played enterprisiing, attractive rugby all season and deserved it.

Yet another new, non SA first time champion in S15, following the Reds and Chiefs. Whilst the Sharks slumber.

The Sharks really need to pull their fingers out – there is no excuse any more when new teams like the Waratahs with less finals experience are doing it for the first time.

  • What a great final…the Saders were unlucky not to get a penalty just before the Tahs got their winning penalty…but so the game goes…well done Tahs…on the evidence of the season you deserved it…

Waratahs were the better side all season. Joubert was very good and is without doubt the best ref in the world.

  • Dude, the Super 10 was 5 matches long (including the final) and the final was always guaranteed to be held in SA.

Shit even the Sharks could have won 10 of those by now.

    Not the same thing.

  • @JD (Comment 43) : technically yes but most statistics only include stats from the professional era , Sanzar was only established in 1996 so they won the super 10 yes , was it part of super rugby I think not.

  • @Feather (Comment 44) : @BR (Comment 45) : @Zibbie (Comment 48) : guys Super 10 was a competition with provincial teams from NZ, SA and OZ so for me the 3 seasons still count towards Super rugby stats. To say that 3 seasons don’t count is like saying the first 3 rugby World cups don’t count because it was still an amateur game, so did SA only win the World cup once?

One thing Ive never liked is how the Sharks always pick a small 6/8 in tandem.

  • What are our loose forward stocks looking like ahead of next year and who do we have in the pipe works? Imagine getting Coetzee and Arno Botha on the flanks together-that would be potent.

  • Comment 52, posted at 03.08.14 20:25:44 by Talent Reply
  • @JD (Comment 49) : See the thing is , its not just me or them saying that . Its the official situation . if you search for past super rugby winner on google you will find the following link :

the first paragraph reads as follows : “Super Rugby is the major professional rugby union competition in the Southern Hemisphere.[1] The competition began as Super 12 in 1996, consisting of 12 teams from Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.”

As badly as i want to be able to claim that the Lions won Super Rugby , that is just not true .
