Big blow for Bulls

In breaking news, it appears that Blue Bulls flyhalf Jacques-Louis Potgieter is set to miss around a month of Currie Cup action due to a rib injury sustained during Saturday’s Newlands drubbing at the hands of Western Province.

With the team in crisis following successive 40-point concessions in their opening two games, the last thing the Bulls really needed was to lose an experienced playmaker, especially given that Handre Pollard is unavailable too.

Tony Jantjies now looks to be the man who will have to step into the void, amid rumblings of discontent from numerous Bulls stakeholders given the team’s fall from grace in recent times.

Interestingly, four other Premier Division teams have regularly included former Bulls age-group flyhalves in their match 22s this season. None of Marnitz Boshoff (Lions), JC Roos (Pumas), Francois Brummer (Griquas) or Willie du Plessis (Cheetahs) was considered good enough to pull on the famous blue jersey at senior level. How Frans Ludeke would love to call on any one of them now.
