The Xerox Golden Lions will travel to Port Elizabeth this weekend to face the Eastern Province Kings in their fourth round Currie Cup match, at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

Head coach, Johan Ackermann has made a few changes to his back line that went down, 27 – 14, to Western Province at Newlands this past Saturday.

Ruan Combrinck will start at fullback, Lionel Mapoe will play on the right wing and Stokkies Hanekom moves to outside centre with Alwyn Hollenbach at inside. Andries Coetzee moves to flyhalf.

Lions captain, Warren Whiteley returns to the side after traveling with the Springboks to Argentina, and takes up his position at the back of the scrum. Jaco Kriel comes in on the side of the scrum.

Armand van der Merwe is the only change amongst the tight five as he comes in at hooker.

  • Definitely a better balanced backline than against WP.

  • @Baylion (Comment 1) : Agreed. New lease on life for Coetzee who has become a bit stale at 15

  • Is Kwagga faster than Esterhuizen ❓ @Baylion (Comment 1) : I know Alwyn is 1st choice but is he match fit ❓ would have played Howard ahead of him.

  • @Baylion (Comment 1) : Agreed but why not give Guy a go at 10? He looked pretty good against WP.

@Chippa (Comment 3) : Howard must definitely be given a start at some point. Would like to see what he and Stokkies can do as a midfield combo.

  • @vanmartin (Comment 5) : I hope you right you sure it’s Whiteley that’s back and not Smith? Alberts should be rested for the rest of the year!

  • @Baylion (Comment 6) : ja man for sure he must be, Esterhuizen is only a blind side and Kwagga is a sevens Bok.

  • @Baylion (Comment 6) : Seeing that Kwagga is backup to the backline and JW sees Esterhuizen as slow I was just wondering?

  • @JD (Comment 8) : Sevens playing as a front ranker just like Whitely and he also played flank for the baby Boks
