The Golden Lions team to take on the EP Kings in Currie Cup tomorrow has had to be changed.

Captain Warren Whiteley has been summoned to join the Bok tour; his place in the number 8 jersey goes to Willie Britz, who moves up from the bench. Centre Lionel Mapoe captains the team for the first time.

Martin Muller comes onto the bench to replace Britz, while Robbie Coetzee has also been withdrawn due to injury; his replacement is veteran hooker Willie Wepener.

  • Wow good news for Mapoe, the boy deserves it just like it happened to Tera Mtembu captaining the Sharks.

  • @sazito (Comment 1) : Mapoe is an untrustworthy snake. Nothing like Tera

  • @robdylan (Comment 2) : Snake? Really? What has he done to the Lions that’s made him so untrustworthy?

  • Mapoe is a very good all round centre (great attacking and defensive stats…better than any sharks centre)…
plus he is very dedicated to the Lions…
Never seen him captain…but prefer him to captain than Minnie….

  • Come on Rob….Tera is just not good…and I cannot recall when last I’ve seen such a disjointed Sharks team….
They also lack character on the field…
So as a player and captain he is questionable..

  • @robdylan (Comment 2) : Mapoe has been dedicated to the Lions even when they were out of Super rugby…and even though he was offered contracts by WP and Bulls…
Does take a lot for him to commit…but when he does he is fully committed…
