Blue Bulls captain and flanker Deon Stegmann has copped a rather fortuitous one-match ban after being shown a red card against the Kings last week.
Stegmann was sent off for striking a prone opponent with his elbow during his team’s win in Port Elizabeth.
He will thus not be available to lead his team against the Sharks at Loftus this weekend.
Team mate Bongi Mbonambi, who was yellow carded for illegal ruck entry, received no further sanction and is free to play this weekend.

Good news that I guess, No fetcher for them. We might actually be able to record a victory at loftus this year… One can only live in hope
So Stegman gets 1 week for giving the people elbow. The Cheetahs prop gets no sanction for the delibrate kick. But last year Deysel shown red and suspended for the stamp…yeh sounds reasonable
Wiaan Liebenberg should fill the fetcher role this weekend. His elbow antics meant the Bulls did not get their much needed bonus point. Regardless what the other guy’s hand was clutching, losing out on a bonus point is going to haunt us.
@Blue Centurion (Comment 3) : Ya shame man, especially after Akona dotted down for such a beautiful try. my dad nearly cried when the try was disallowed. Our home is a bit of a SA Derby itself… My dad and sister (coz she’s born in PTA) is a bulls support, my mom a Kings supporter (and a big one at it, doesn’t miss a home game ever), my one brother is a huge Stormers fan (since like forever), my baby brother is a Cheetahs fan (Still can’t see the logic in that one ay) and then there is me… Black and White nothing else matters!
At least we all come together when the Springboks play, there Provincialism doesn’t apply… I blame my folks though for having us travelled so much (we stayed in WP, Gautang, KZN and currently in PE… never in Bloem so, like I said, I don’t see why my youngest brother supports the Cheetahs)
@Stiko85 (Comment 1) : I am afraid we go to Loftus as real underdogs this year.
@Stiko85 (Comment 4) : That must be a brilliant atmosphere during derbies.
He’s a dirty little fucker that Stagmann.
Wasn’t it him who punched Bissie in the Nads a few seasons back.
