It looks like the unfortunate Paul Jordaan has seen another premature end to a promising season, with the injury that forced him from the field just seven minutes into Friday’s clash against the Lions set to keep him off the field for some time.
Jordaan was stretchered from the field after a big hit from Lions flank Jaco Kriel appeared to catch him on the lower back. The Sharks man went down like a ninepin and was apparently taken straight to hospital. While we don’t have a confirmed prognosis, the unofficial word I’ve heard is that he may have suffered some sort of hip fracture.
I’m sure the Sharks will announce a formal report in due course; we’d obviously like to send Paul our commiserations and wish him well with the recovery.
The injury comes at a bad time for the Sharks, who will now need to look at moving S’bura Sithole back to center, with Tondie Chavhanga perhaps coming in on the wing.

And just as Jordaan was seeming to find some good form again . Get well soon Paul!
Man, and he was just starting to look like he’s getting back into some form at last! That tackle was damn horrific. Totally legal, but can’t thing of a worse legal tackle than being hit from your blindside in your lower back. Hope he recovers fast!
@vanmartin (Comment 1) : this is a bit of a blow. He was really looking sharp.
The upside is that we can get S’bura back in off the wing (where he’s not good) and start using him as intended once more.
That sounds nasty. Get well soon.
Best wishes Paul
Damn shame, Paul was just starting to look like the class player that we know he is.
Agree S’bura is better at outside centre than wing.
@robdylan (Comment 3) : Definitely. Also hope that Sithole can send a loud enough message that he should be included on the EOYT (nothing against Serfontein, but there is a glaring depth issue at 13 for the Boks).
Rapport mentioned that Esterhuizens leading forearm charge will be further looked at by the citing gurus and that he may cop a further punishment. Losing both centres will hurt especially if Heimar is still out.
I think Esterhuizen is also sending some messages that with a little more game time behind him he can be considered for Springbok center as well. One think he can do as well or maybe better than serfontein is demolish a defensive line.
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 8) : I read that and dismissed it as nonsense.
@robdylan (Comment 10) : When reading I noted that it was written by a guy mentioned here last week as being a bit “inventive” – had a chuckle.
Now compare his hit to that of Liam messam in the box game. 1 no intent and a yellow the other big intent and no sanction.
@Dunx (Comment 12) : You can see how he threw/rolled his shoulder into it. He had all the intent in the world. I don’t buy the nonsense that the player went down into it. You can see clearly that he intended for it to hit the player.
Get well soon!!!!! Hope it’s not to serious! !!!
All the best Paul sure he will be back and playing soon
Paul out for six months! Confirmed on the Sharks website. Sheesh!
@vanmartin (Comment 16) : Shit eina!!!! Poor guy really bad luck.
@vanmartin (Comment 16) : Sucks to be him
@robdylan (Comment 18) : Apologies for jumping the gun with that comment. Should have remembered that you usually do a follow-up article once an injury is confirmed.
