  • I have to say, some of Roman Poite’s refereeing decisions bordered on the comical. Yes the Boks played badly and may well have lost the game regardless of who was refereeing. However, the All Blacks are frequently lauded for their ability to come from behind and win games in the dying minutes, even when they aren’t at their best. To me, the Boks were denied this opportunity by Mr Poite. When he sent Strauss off the score was 10-16 and South Africa appeared to be gaining at least a modicum of momentum. However, any recovery was sharply snuffed out by Mr Poite’s ludicrous decision to show Strauss yellow. It baffles me that he is an international referee. Not only has he made incorrect, game changing decisions in previous international matches, he has done the same at club level in Europe. Even the Skysports commentators remarked on his unusual interpretations. Perhaps it is just symptomatic of the shambolic state of French rugby…

  • If HM was a coach he would kick himself that quality scrumhalfs are playing in France and he is still trying to convert a wing into one.
We can’t offload or pass. 1 dimensional predictable as ever as HM is.

  • This was a hiding. When you consider how the A.B’S and the Wallabies were able to come back and win against probably better opposition our effort was pathetic.
You can blame the ref as much as you want, for the first time in my life I agree with Mallett ,Poite was not bad.Straus yellow card was warranted his hands were no where near the ball he played the man in the air.
So many of Meyer’s pathetic selections were all found out at once.He must be the only guy in the whole rugby world that hasn’t realised Hughaardt is not a number 9. By now he should have solved that problem
Jean de Villiers is another one, stands on the wing waving his arms like a traffic cop,not a centre and not a captain.Another two positions Meyer should have solved by now.
The big shock is Etherbeth, since he has returned he has turned into Spies, nothing more than a big poser, gone is the ferocity and in its place a guy in a posing pouch.Coennie is another one
Schalk Burger is a joke,he’s like a guy playing a testimonial game.We have seen everything he can do and unfortunately so have the opposition.
Wouldn’t it br wonderful to have a young guy like Whitely on the field as the captain, just like the Aussie’s have done with Hooper.
Oh well we could have had Morne and Zane and Pierre .

  • Boks looked flat and well off the pace..perhaps a result of not having played a game in over 2 weeks where as Irish guys played club last week and even the All Blacks had a warm up test. Roman Poite was pretty dreadful…he wasnt the sole reason the Boks lost but he was pretty dreadful and clearly a hometown ref. Some of the things he made up or missed were amazing. Hougaard was horrible hence Pollard struggled to do much with the shite ball he got if he even got it. HM should have made the brave call seeing Hougaard was having an of day and brought on Reinach 20min into the game. Our forwards inter play is either non existent or very basic…watch how many passes the All Blacks and even Irish forwards make compare to our guys tucking the ball under the arm and running. Are we sure Hendricks and Etzebeth even played??

  • I’ll be holding my breath for Ungerer when it comes to the future of scrummies in SA.

Neither of Houghaard and Reinach inspires much confidence at test level.

Reinach has a lot going for him, but he’s unpredictable to the point where his teammates has no idea what to expect.

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 67) : Reinarch and Houghaard have exactly the same problem both of them were undersized wings who were converted after school to scrum halves. They lack the instinct for the position that makes a great 9. This is not their natural position.More than any other position on the field 9 is about 100% instinct and nothing else

Ungerer has a snow balls chance while Meyer is in charge. The guy who should be there is Sarel Pretourius, apart from Janna Vermaak and Kockert,he is our only natural no 9.Pienaar is a converted 10 Fourie du Preez is taking too long to make it back for the world cup and he should either be there now or not at all

  • @The hound (Comment 69) : you and I were in agreement up to where you suggested Sarel Pertorius…. 😆

@SheldonK (Comment 68) : Only because of injury….he played one half for the u/21’s as captain after returning from injury, and they immediately discovered how to win games again.

As soon as he has an extended run as scrummie, he’ll prove just how good he is. I first saw him playing for the baby Boks, and there was a marked difference in the team when he went off for Hanco Venter. Same with u/21’s.

Venter and Gold will notice him very early on….Venter preferred McLeod to Reinach, which tells me that he prefers a thinking scrummie to a shovel with speed and guile.
