I know many people say we shouldn’t speak badly of the referees…but jeepers, Steve Walsh wasn’t great!!
Pat made a couple of mistakes, but otherwise was good. Reinach was a bit slow, but also did a lot of good things.
@pastorshark (Comment 33) : Thank you.
Jean is such a gracious captain. His opposite not so much.
@Bokhoring (Comment 37) : That’s a very accurate comment!!
Interesting to see just how complementary the English press is of Lambie. See the comments in the Daily Mail (who gave him a score of 8/10):
– “South Africa’s star man was Patrick Lambie”
– He gave “an excellent all round display with clever kicking from hand and sound distribution.”
– “His goal kicking in the conditions was also first class.”
Well done Pat!
@pastorshark (Comment 39) :
Lambie was for from being at his best.
Missed one sitter place kick.
Kicked one penalty dead.
One box-kick charged down.
One poor kick-pass.
The Bok back-line was completely ineffective all gem. His running and passing game added nothing.
@fyndraai (Comment 40) :
The chip kick for the try was great though.
@fyndraai (Comment 41) : Well, more than just that chip kick for the try was good. I think we, sitting here in our lounges, are not capable of factoring in how difficult those conditions were. Lambie was not perfect…no arguments from me about that. But he really was good enough, excellent and controlled in much that he did and ultimately won the game for us. I for one am not going to ask more… #satisfied
And it is quite pleasant to hear Heyneke speak positively about Lambie: http://www.sarugbymag.co.za/blog/details/reinach-lambie-were-superb
Lambie was great defensively, that’s where this game was won. On a side note, I firmly believe Nick Mallet is being paid to say dumb s#$t. How else do you explain him saying the frog had a good game when anyone with half a brain knows that’s not the case. Then a week later he says Walsh was poor.
@pastorshark (Comment 43) :
Well that’s it then. I’m certainly not going to argue with Heyneke the Great, on this. đŸ™‚
@pastorshark (Comment 42) :
maybe the same can be said for the ref
@fyndraai (Comment 40) : I’m no Bambie fan BUT how many of the issues you name were down to the 9,did you watch Kokket and Genia to see how proper 9’s play.also Bambie great work on your kicking technique,huge improvement ,you now look like the real deal
I know supporters are allowed to be critical but what would we expect a good game from our 9/10 to be? Must they score at least a try, create 3 more, kick every shot at goal and not miss a single tackle then only we will say they had a good game? Reinach and Lambie were very good on the weekend, barring to kick errors from Lambie but hey sh*t happens. Schalk “The Pensioner” was outstanding…u cant buy that class anymore. The Boks were def not their best but were a lot better and if it wasnt for some ‘interesting’ calls from our mates with the whistle and the Boks inability to defend driving mauls im not too sure how many points England would have got.
@SheldonK (Comment 48) : what would we expect a good game from our 9/10 to be?
Well to start with, something a lot closer to what we saw this past weekend as opposed to the stuff dished up against the Irish.
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 49) : I agree to an extent, but some people are saying our 9/10 were still not good against England. I mean we were playing England not Northern Ireland so its gonna be a tough game. I agree with you that we would want more of what we saw vs England than what we saw vs Ireland but to be fair to Pollard i dont think he was bad vs Ireland- he just got horrible ball, well the passes that actually made it to him. I do like the type of player that HM is picking at 9/10 though, even if Hougaard had an off day against Ireland. Lets not forget that Aaron Smith had a few pretty average games when he first got a run in the All Black side but they stuck with what they saw in him and now he is the best 9 in the world
Is it just me or did the ball go from 9 to 10 only about 5 times in the whole game. There were so many crash balls from the forwards and JdV that our backline didn’t do much attacking from broken play. I watched the france vs oz game as well, and must say the french backline looked killer. Crisp passes in front of the guys the whole game gave them huge momentum throughout.
@SheldonK (Comment 50) : Yes Ive seen some of those comments but Im sure those making the comments are doing so more because deep down they didnt want them to have been good. Considering pressure, the massive crowd, weather conditions etc they were better than just good. Lets face it Pollard and Houghaard had a crap day (the whole team did – ok not you Marcel) and we all know that they are better than that performance but unfortunately they can only be critted on what they dished up. Pollard is class and Houghaard, although not my cup of tea, will not repeat that performance again.
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 52) : or was it a case of playing a tactically astute opposition with a clear game plan and were found very wanting
@PTAShark (Comment 51) : how the hell did the Sharks let Kokket and Spedding go,unbelievable
@benji (Comment 53) : That aswell. I think for some weird and wonderful reason the Boks tend to underestimate certain oppositions, maybe not so much on the coaching side but more so from the players themselves. I say not from a coaching point of view only because I couldnt ever imagine why they would do that.
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 55) : Teh great thing about sport is that its not a sure thing…well unless u a Pakistani cricketer but thats another story. So yes most days games go true to form but the beauty of sport is that anyone can truly win on the day especially if they are motivated and well coached.
