The EP Kings, from whom the news is flowing thick and fast today, have announced via press release that they have released senior defence coach Michael Horak, less than a year after he joined their ranks from the Free State Cheetahs.
More puzzling still is the revelation that Horak has been released to take up a coaching role with the Sharks; puzzling in that there’s been no mention of this move at all from the Sharks themselves. The Durban union are often not the quickest to confirm such moves, but we have approached them for comment and will, of course, update you as soon as we have some sort of official position from them.
Horak, like new Sharks Director of Rugby Gary Gold and Technical Director Brendan Venter, has strong links to the London Irish club and would have a good working relationship with the new men at the helm of Sharks rugby.

This is/could be good
Didnt the Kings leak the most tries in CC?
This can only be good news. As far as I’m aware, we have never had a coach with a specialised focus such as defence? If true, this could be a very good move..
Glad to see the back of this oke, he came in and our defense got worse
@SheldonK (Comment 2) : You can’t build a steel wall if the only material you are given is chicken wire.
@vanmartin (Comment 1) : Yup, especially if you consider how the Cheetah defence went south after he left. Could be a good signing if true.
@Ludz (Comment 4) : hoe SUUR proe daai DRUIWE van jou?
@Ludz (Comment 4) : You guys couldnt understand his accent.
@robdylan (Comment 7) : Haha no sour grapes at all
@Ludz (Comment 4) : But on a serious note I know what you mean and I too will check this out with a very open mind. He did not leave a mark at the Kings but his stint with the Cheetahs was impressive.
Sounds good!
@KingRiaan (Comment 5) : Or to put it another way, you can’t erect a steel wall on marshy terrain.
@KingRiaan (Comment 5) : haha yes fair point
Well, the Cheetahs and the Kings has never been known for their defense. If he does come hopefully he knows what he’s doing!
Personally, I think the Sharks need to simplify their recruitment policy to a two step process; 1) find out who Brendan wants, and 2) recruit them
Now we just seriously need a kop dokter!
@KingRiaan (Comment 16) : 100% correct and as soon as possible (like in yesterday)!!!!!!!
I think this could be good…
