Bismarck du Plessis has been confirmed as squad captain for the Sharks in 2015.

In confirming a leadership group of four, the Sharks coaches are ensuring enough captaincy candidates to allow for rotation during the season. Pat Lambie, Frans Steyn and Tera Mtembu will serve ad Bismarck’s deputies and it’s a pretty safe bet that at least one of the four will be on the field at all times throughout the campaign.

Speaking to the Sharks website of the appointments, Gary Gold said β€œThe way the modern game is going it is not about individuals but a group of leaders who share ideas and work together as a team in order to achieve the desired results.

β€œThese four players have proven their leadership ability and commitment to the Cell C Sharks over the years and they will be able to rally the group and get the best out of their teammates.”

  • Well Steyn must be some good in a captaincy capacity, Plum couldn’t have been that wrong.

  • @Uli Boelie (Comment 1) : He was, though. Being captain really hurt Steyn’s game. Maybe he’s shed that off along with all that weight, though. We’ll see.

  • Great leaders, all of them. Good luck guys; may you always keep a cool head and lead by example, as we know you will do. Frans is a bit of a surprise, but I’m all for it! Come on SR 2015! We have waited long enough now. Lets get the ball rolling! πŸ˜›

  • I like this. I actually liked Steyn when he was made captain…it looked like it made him care more on the field. Its a long year and just like rotating players the captaincy should be rotated. It can weigh on a guys shoulders and Bissie’s game actually went south since he was made captain

  • @SheldonK (Comment 7) : Maybe, but there’s no denying that his discipline went in a Northerly direction.

  • Nice to see a group of leaders being announced instead of a captain and deputy. Also great that it includes an equal amount of forwards and backs.

  • There is a calm settledness to that leadership group,no surprises and lots of continuity.
First bit of continuity at the Sharks for a long time.
Now if the coaching staff can settle and the management stays stable.

  • @The hound (Comment 12) : yes that’s very important that things/coaching structures now must be settle and stop this chop and change trend.

  • Great move by the coaching staff. Bissie is a great leader but he’s often his own worst enemy especially when his temper gets the best of him. Pat is due to step up as a future sharks captain in a few years give or take. As long as they all contribute to making the best decisions on field, I’m stoked.
