Sharks loose forward Jean Deysel looks set to miss out on this weekend’s crunch derby at Newlands, at the very least, after picking up an injury at Loftus last Saturday.
Deysel, who came on as a 58th-minute replacement for Renaldo Bothma against the Bulls, was in major discomfort after the game and will need to undergo further investigation today to determine the severity of the injury to his ankle. Gary Gold confirmed that the team was concerned about the knock immediately after the game.
Should the big flanker, who has played off the bench in all three of the Sharks’ Super Rugby matches this season, fail to recover, the Sharks will have a number of other options, including Tera Mtembu and the hulking form of Bok Willem Alberts, who is expected to be fit to play after his own injury lay-off.

I hope Willem Alberts is ready because they need to go for broke now. Yes I know it’s still early days but we can’t fall too far behind the Stormers if we want to win the SA conference 😐
Yay, Willem.
Hoping Deysel is not too serious.
Think our loosies are covered though.
Also hope Willem makes the trip…
@pastorshark (Comment 3) : I am keen to see him back.
@Greg (Comment 1) : Pressure will be on a bit now.
I hope Willem can play but I also don’t want him to be rushed back too soon. Hopefully he will play from the bench.
On the final whistle Deysel went off on a stretcher “golf cart” did look quite serious.
@StevieS (Comment 4) : A bit? You’re vying for the title of the King of Understatement…
@Ben (Comment 5) : Definitely at the most from the bench…
@pastorshark (Comment 7) : Trying not to be a Gloom Merchant lol
Nervous for the game this week. I have a feeling the Sharks will lift, but they really have to work hard.
@Letgo (Comment 2) : Agreed, pretty sure Tera is chomping at the bit
@StevieS (Comment 9) : But you miss the point…make us huge underdogs with the pressure in big time…and then we start playing!!
