Sharksworld can exclusively confirm that Sharks CEO, John Smit, will leave his position with the team in order to start a brand new professional cycling team. The new team will be named “The Old Boys Club” and will start competing locally before turning their attention to trying to conquer the international cycling circuit.
The fledgling team will have another name familiar to Sharks fans on their books in none other than Butch James. In fact, Smit has promised to only work with people he had played with or was coached by in his stellar rugby playing career.
Here’s what the man himself had to say about his career move: “I was going for my daily ride on my bike and there happened to be a mosquito buzzing around close to my ear. When I realised that the mosquito was making a similar high-pitched whine to the Sharks fans that we encounter at Kings Park and all around blogosphere, I decided that enough was enough.
“When I got home I gave Butchie a call and we both decided to follow our real passion, cycling.”
Smit explained that the fans were right to be upset about the state of affairs at the Sharks. “We won the Currie Cup a few months after I took over as CEO, uh, and then we won the South African Super Rugby conference quite comfortably last year. But apart from that, there has not been much success to speak of”. The new man will certainly have a big job getting the Sharks out of their current crisis.
There is still no news of who might take over from Smit or what colour scheme Smit’s new cycling team will be wearing.

These April Fools jokes are lame 😈
@JarsonX (Comment 1) : you’re lame. Pass it on.
This is too obvious
Love it! 🙂
HAHAH lekker! 😛 Nice one!
@Dunx (Comment 3) : I missed have missed your better submission somehow. Let me check my spam folder
Try again!
I see that Beast is going back to Zim after the WC to coach Churchill Boys High.. 😯
Actually, not a bad idea.
It’s a pity Smit didn’t recruit other number 2’s. ‘Hookers on wheels’ is damn catchy.
@robdylan (Comment 2) : No personal attacks allowed on this blog. 😛 I should sue!
@vanmartin (Comment 10) : 😆 😆 Absolutely!
@JarsonX (Comment 11) : Lawyer up buddy 🙂
😛
If the Sharks dont produce the goods and more money scandals hit then Smitty could well be on his bike outta there…
Hope he gets Lance Armstrong as supplements adviser…they’ll race to the top in no time at all 😈
@robdylan (Comment 6) : obviously the spam is on high alert as it blocked my mail address
😈

@JarsonX (Comment 18) : Ja shame, they tried hard for a good April Fool’s joke.
Stellar career ja right that’s the first joke,what about the last RWC and if only this was the damn truth cause that’s the first problem needing fixing at the Sharks
@JarsonX (Comment 18) : @KingRiaan (Comment 19) : Replace a guy whose abrasive tackling lands him in hot water with Butch James, who also happens to have retired. That definitely sounds like something the Sharks would do
@vanmartin (Comment 21) : anyway, once a player has retired, he needs to give something like 3 months notice before he can play again and in that time, obviously, deliver up a good few clean blood samples.
Honestly people.
@robdylan (Comment 22) : He has had ongoing testing done as a competitive cyclists. The International Doping Commission has cleared him for participation in all sports, including Rugby.
@Dancing Bear (Comment 23) : International Doping Commission! Of course. How silly of me 😆
@robdylan (Comment 24) : Of course with him training both at altitude and at sea level, there was some concern about blood doping, but no direct evidence. 😛 😛 😀 😀 😀
In other news, Victor Matfield has decided to “finally” speak out about the constant media spotlight given to former Boks like Butch James and John Smit, even though “neither has set foot on a rugby field in many years”. “They are taking valuable news space from me and my comeback, which is far more important to the Springboks and South African Rugby than their escapades of late” Matfield said. He also notes that a reliable sauce had told him that Smit was planning a comeback for RWC 2015, and intended to fill the captaincy void left by Jean de Villiers. Matfield feels the captaincy is once again to be taken from him by the former Pretoria Boys High Head Boy. While Matfield has said that he was able to remain silent for the many years they played together for the Boks, he is just unable to continue his silence. John Smit has at this point refused to confirm or deny the rumour, but does seem to be deriving some joy from Matfield’s frustration.
Hahaha…thanks for the entertainment. Mosquitos…kakaka! 😯
