Concussion concern for Ndungane

It’s been confirmed that Odwa Ndungane is suffering from the effects of concussion, after being forced off the field just 13 minutes into Saturday’s Super Rugby match against the Bulls.

With the Sharks having the benefit of a bye week before departing on their tough tour, it’s hoped that the concussion, described as “mild”, won’t prevent the veteran outside back from joining the tour party. There don’t appear to be any other injury concerns ahead of the tour.

In fact, the party is likely to be strengthened by the inclusion of Stephan Lewies and Paul Jordaan, both of whom should be good to play after long-term injury absences.

Meanwhile, Director of Rugby Gary Gold has confirmed that the mood in the camp is “sombre” following a third successive defeat this past weekend.

  • When will we get a confirmed list of the squad going?

  • Damn, and Odwa was looking awesome at the back. Bloody glad to hear about Lewies and Jordaan, we need them!

Hopefully before they get on the plane.

  • ‘sombre’ is an understatement. I’m sure the boys feel down at the moment, so it’s time we, as true Sharks fans, stop putting the boot in and start getting behind our boys and the coaching staff.

  • @StevieS (Comment 5) : do you honestly feel we’re doing that? I guess we are…. it probably doesn’t help anyone if we write them off before the tour.

  • Does it really make a difference what we say on here? I mean, if I say “I think the Sharks are going to score 8 tries and win by 50” will it happen?

Nah. I think tough love is required.

  • @robdylan (Comment 6) : Well, when we’ve backed them for the win – they don’t pitch.

I’m sorry to say, but this isn’t Oprah or Dr. Phil, they need to stop feeling sorry for themselves…they get to play for the team that we love and they get paid (a ton of money) to do so.

They need to go to old age homes, orphanages and homeless shelters and realise that their “feelings” and “problems” in the grander scheme of things, are pretty darn superficial.

  • @FireTheLooser (Comment 10) : That is the very feeling i get when i watch the Sharks this year- little kids throwing a tantrum and sulking when not getting their own way and or when they arent playing well and losing.

  • @StevieS (Comment 15) : Don’t have to tell me bud.. I live & work in the heart of the Jakaranda Stad. The amount of abuse I receive on a regular basis is nothing short of sheer torture. ESPECIALLY when we play them Bulls.. AND lose to them, TWICE in one season. Traumatic to say the least.

  • @Another Nick (Comment 16) : To be fair the Bulls are actually playing soem really good rugby at the moment and if Pollard was firing on all cylinders the score on Sat could have been a lot more. Burger Odendaal looks very good- not just a crash ball centre, would like to see him link up with Serfontein though.

  • @Another Nick (Comment 16) : What gets me is that I can admit when we play badly and congratulate them, but they seem to take real joy out of our misery.

@SheldonK (Comment 17) : Burger is way better than Jan. He looks to create and runs around opposition, not straight into them. Jan needs to get his flair back, he’s become a crash ball player.

  • @SheldonK (Comment 17) : No that’s the thing! They are really playing some very good rugga; though I would never admit this to my dear blue friends. They are high on confidence and have a dangerous backline to compliment their bulky forwards.

  • @Another Nick (Comment 16) :

I know exactly what you go through. When I had a season ticket (1999 to 2007) I belonged to the Sharks supporters’ Club. One year during Super Rugby we went to JHB and played the Cats at Ellis Park. The JHB people were very friendly even though the Sharks won. That same year we went to Bloem and Played the Cheetahs in a Curry Cup Semi-Final. The Sharks won! The Free Staters were extremely amicable and we all partied till late into the night! It was great! I remember now – it was the year Gary Botha played Hooker for the Sharks (Super Rugby only – on loan).

Because we won we all went to Pretoria the next week to play the Bulls in the Curry Cup Final. I was so excited going to watch Rugby at Loftus (I went to Pretoria Girls’ High and that was right on top of Loftus.) Anyway, the bus dropped us at the field but we had to walk back to the hotel after the game. Well – even though we lost the game the Bulls Supporters were real animals – no other description. Our Sharks shirts were a give away! I’ve never been in a position as we were in that day – walking back to the hotel. I vowed and declared that I would NEVER watch another rugby game at Loftus EVER AGAIN. I didn’t realise that human beings could ever be so low!

  • @robdylan (Comment 6) : I disagree, If I am putting the boot in I am kicking myself as well.

It hurts to see them (the boys) hurt, so no real sharks fan is putting the boot in, we are all just looking around trying to make sense of chaos, and sometimes that means harsh words but only because we really do care.

Otherwise I would not even waste my time commenting on poor performance.

  • @[email protected] (Comment 26) : It would be wrong to generalise and say ALL Bulls supporters are a$$holes, but it seems the majority of them do carry themselves in a very unsportsmanlike manner. Most of my friends are Bulls supporters and can’t wait to have a go at me and rip the skin off my face when we lose to them. That alone makes every victory against them SO much sweeter!!

  • @[email protected] (Comment 26) : I’ve been in similar situations at Loftus. I drew the line when ‘fans’ started swearing at my wife. It’s mainly the drink do the talking at the point but it’s definitely not the kind of place I’d take my family to. The vibe is however much better when the Boks play there. At least then the ‘fans’ hurl the abuse at the players 🙂

  • Im with coolfusion on the fans thoughts…..I have followed loyally and paid my money and more towards the boys I even sponsored the team at one stage…I am here now supporting but I wont come down on anyone that’s feeling disgruntled because they deserve an outlet and if the team play badly consistently they will get in deep with the support base and thats normal. On to the good news…Nice to have some old heads back and soon suspended players return.
