Former Sharks age-group prop Allan Dell is one of three South African forwards to feature in Scotland’s preliminary World Cup squad.
23-year old Dell, who joined Allan Solomons’ Edinburgh last year, is joined in the preliminary squad by provincial team mate (and former Cheetahs tighthead) Willem “WP” Nel. There’s also a call-up for former Lions player Josh Struass, who captained the Glasgow Warriors to a Guinness PRO12 final victory this past weekend.
Congratulations to all three players and we’ll be holding thumbs that they make the final squad; with Scotland in the same pool as the Springboks at this year’s World cup, there could be a very spicy battle indeed on the cards.

Congrats, just a little more reason to support the Scots every now and then.
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 1) : That and their damn pretty anthem
damn, all three above average but probably would never get a sniff of Bok jersey.
Good luck apart from the pool decider game 😛
@Dragnipur (Comment 2) : Have often wondered how much extra woema that anthem gives them. It a rousing thing of beauty.
Good luck gents…
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 4) : Same with Ireland
@Letgo (Comment 6) : Yesss…
@Dragnipur (Comment 2) : You can say that again!
@Letgo (Comment 6) : @pastorshark (Comment 7) : I actually really enjoy all the home union anthems and especially the great crowd participation.
I like the Scots and I like these players, but if they don’t have a true connection with the country they’re playing for, it devalues international competition in my eyes.
But good luck to them!
Congrats Allan!
@Dragnipur (Comment 2) : @Letgo (Comment 6) : was about to say if i can go and watch a Ireland Scotland game i could die a happy man
Congrats to all three well done lads and hope they make the final squad!!!!
